Change In Dispatch Services May Sound Alert Systems

Local Agencies Switching to CONFIRE Joint Powers Authority

Rialto, CA - Effective tomorrow, July 1, Desert Communications in Victorville will be closing their doors. Local fire agencies have been working closely with CONFIRE Joint Powers Authority, located in Rialto, to facilitate a smooth transition to their dispatch services.

Over the next few days, residents may hear siren alerts or strange testing tones on scanners. The conversion is expected to be seamless with no interruption in emergency dispatch services.

If residents have any questions or concerns, they are encouraged to contact their local fire department.

CONFIRE

The San Bernardino County Fire Department – CONFIRE Joint Powers Authority Communications Center is located in the City of Rialto at the southwest end of the Rialto Municipal Airport, adjacent to the County Emergency Operations Center.

The CONFIRE Communications Center (CommCenter), is a multi-agency emergency Fire/Emergency Medical Service (EMS)-only dispatch center. Its primary mission is to provide direct fire/EMS dispatch service 24-hours a day, seven days a week for the Consolidated Fire Agencies of CONFIRE JPA, as well as contracting fire agencies.

Michael P. Neufeld, Senior News Editor, is a graduate of the Dwight Bentel School of Journalism at San Jose State University. His first job out of San Jose State was with the Associated Press in Los Angeles as overnight Radio Editor.
