Lake Gregory Sediment Removal Completed (Update 2)

Grand Pacific Contractors Finished Job Ahead of Schedule

Update 2 - Sunday 3:40 a.m.

Crestline, CA - Despite a snow storm, Grand Pacific Contractors completed the Lake Gregory Sediment Removal Project ahead of schedule.

Grand Pacific, utilizing about a dozen dump trucks, removed about 8,000 yards of material in just four days.

Despite the shortened timetable involved in removing the sediment, Grand Pacific CEO Wayne Stevenson told RIMOFTHEWORLD.net the job required fewer dump tracks than originally planned and crews were able to keep the beaches for use by visitors to Lake Gregory Regional Park.

"And to my knowledge," Stevenson noted, "there were no complaints as the crews went about their work."

And during the entire project, Crestline professional engineer George Hawes monitored the work to make sure there were no water quality issues.

The County Department of Public Works also monitored the sediment removal project along with representatives of San Bernardino County Regional Parks and Marshall Riley from the office of Second District Supervisor Paul Biane.

Update

Crestline, CA - Grand Pacific Contractors has begun two dredging projects at Lake Gregory Regional Park and starting today, November 30, dump trucks will begin hauling materials to local landfills.

Flagging operations are scheduled during peak construction periods as over 20 dump trucks transport removed material to local projects and Heaps Peak Transfer Station.

About 8,000 yards of material is expected to be moved during the two projects.

Original Story

Crestline, CA - Heavy equipment has been moved into place as Grand Pacific Contractors begins two dredging projects at Lake Gregory Regional Park.

"We were the successful bidder on both projects," according to Grand Pacific's CEO Wayne Stevenson, as he watched his workers begin erosion control measures at four work sites around the lake.

The two projects are expected to remove about 8,000 yards of material from around Lake Gregory. The North Shore Project was awarded to Grand Pacific for submitting the low bid of $73,790. The successful South Shore/Leisure Shores bid was $41,917.

A spokesperson for San Bernardino County Regional Parks explained that 10 contractors attended a mandatory job walk with eight submitting bids to the Department of Public Works.

"Starting Monday, November 30," Stevenson explained, "there will be traffic controls in effect near the project areas as about 20 dump trucks begin hauling the materials away."

Stevenson noted that most of the material will be trucked to the Heaps Peak Transfer Station near Running Springs. Some will also be taken to local sites.

"Once the hauling begins," Stevenson added, "it will probably take about 5 days to complete the removal process."

Grand Pacific is no stranger to Lake Gregory having constructed the Outer Lake Gregory Trail that surrounds the lake.
