The Arrowbear GusherArrowbear Park Community Water District Got More Than Expected By Dave Henderson Arrowbear, CA - The September 11th meeting of the Arrowbear Park Community Water District (APCWD) covered the usual important-but-mundane issues of managing a shrinking budget while dealing with expanding costs. The Board, soon to be reshaped with two newly-elected Directors, appropriately and enthusiastically celebrated bringing in perhaps the best news in some time. ![]() Arrowbear Lake (Photo by Michael P. According to Mike Scullin, District Manager, Well #2, located on Carlock Drive, started out as an abandoned well of 80'. When the plan to re-drill was approved, they hoped to get 10-20 Gallons Per Minute (GPM), and they got a whole lot more; a gusher, as it turns out.
As drilling hit 250', the water reached such a rate that the casing had to be increased to 12"; and then they continued drilling to 358' and got even more flow. While the flow rate and quality still needs to be thoroughly tested, this gusher is pushing over 150 GPM, some 10 times the amount expected. "Since much of APCWD's revenue comes from the sale of surplus water to other districts, this new flow will help offset the revenue shortfall from state cutbacks. That's better than breaking even and is indeed good news in a bad economy. The less we depend on Sacramento, the better". ![]() Arrowbear Lake is an unincorporated city in San Bernardino County located at an elevation of 6,086 feet. Congratulations are also in order to Harich Enterprises, they brought the district a great well; on time, on budget. No surprise from Harich Enterprises, drilling wells since 1997, a strong offshoot of Harich Construction, started by Mr. Harich in 1957.
Sheila Wymer, Arrowbear Park Community Water District Board President, took time from her official elected duties to voice her disdain for this publisher, RIMOFTHEWORLD.net, a local business. One attendee of the meeting commented "at times like these, lack of support for, and disparaging remarks about, our few remaining local businesses is both an injury and an insult to our community. Interestingly, Wymer also omitted any praise of Harich, also a local business. One needs to question her motives."
