Doe Huff Columns & Editorials Doe and her husband Jim bought their home in Crestline 12 years ago and moved to the mountain full time eight years ago. Doe retired from the Federal government four years ago after working for NASA, The Army Material Command, the Technical Air Force/Navy Training Team, the Army Corps of Engineers and the Air Force Academy. Doe worked in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Washington D.C., Jeddah Saudi Arabia, Isfahan Iran, Pasadena, and active duty Air Force at Glasgow AFB, Montana and Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota. Doe was born in Chicago, but was raised in Montclair, CA. Jim and Doe share their home with their dog Cassidy.
Doe earned an Associates Degree in Journalism and a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of Colorado and was awarded a Presidential Management Internship. Writing has always been a hobby for Doe and since living in Crestline she has written human interest articles for "On the Mountain Magazine" and was a news reporter for the Crestline Courier as well as writing a very popular weekly column.
Together Doe and Jim have three children and five grandchildren. They are both very active in the community. Doe has served as President for the Crestline Communities Development Alliance, was on the Board of Directors of the Boys & Girls Club of the Mountain Communities when it was formed, is a member of the Lake Gregory/Crestline Rotary and was a Board member for several years with the Rim of the World Historical Society. Doe and Jim organized the first annual 4th of July Old Fashioned Community Picnic and just finished the fifth successful year for this event. Doe has been working for over two years to bring a dog park to Lake Gregory. They received a Certificate of Appreciation from County Supervisor Paul Biane for their commitment to the improvement and general well being of the Crestline Lake Gregory community. Doe is very proud to be a citizen of Our Town. Our Town, December 29 I sincerely hope you all had a wonderful week no matter what holiday you celebrated. I hope you were surrounded by the love of your family and friends. What greater gift could anyone ask for? Mountain Calendar of Events Mountain Schedule of Events Our Town, December 14 Oh, the weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful, since we couldn't get to the place we wanted to go – we just came home. Our Town, December 2 I sure hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are as excited as I am about the upcoming holidays. I didn't venture down the hill last Friday to join the mobs gobbling up the sales; I tried to get a good start on my indoor decorating which takes Jim and me a solid five days. Our Town, November 20 Well, the holiday season is just about here. For me it all starts on Thanksgiving watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade while the turkey in the oven fills the house with a holiday aroma. I hope you all have plans to spend the day with family and friends. Our Town, November 10 Boy, the calendar reads Fall but it sure seems like Winter. I can just feel the vibrations of all of you doing your snow dances. It's hard to believe that Thanksgiving is less than three weeks away, but of course all of the stores are already packed to the ceilings with Christmas merchandise. Our Town, November 1 Happy November! I'm sorry I'm late with Our Town – let's see what good excuse I could come up with this time. Our Town, October 20 You know the thing about volunteers, sometimes we work around our own schedule. I really didn't think anyone would notice that "Our Town" wasn't posted last Friday. Boy was I wrong! I could give a zillion excuses why it is late, but let's just say my cup runneth over the past couple of days. Our Town, October 10 Are we having crazy weather or what? We got home from our trip last weekend and had to turn on the furnace; then here comes an absolutely gorgeous Fall day. A day later it was time to take out the shorts again with record heat down the hill. Our Town, October 4 Greetings from the Carnival cruise ship Elation. This has sure been a fun week traveling to Cabo San Lucas with six other couples from the Lake Gregory Yacht Club. Cabo was Hot, Hot, Hot - but Ensenada was actually very nice. Our Town, September 26 What do 38 horses, 2 alpacas, 13 chickens, 12 goats, 3 mules, 1 donkey, 2 pigs, 1 llama, 2 sheep, 8 dogs and 6 cats all have in common? Our Town, September 19 Our mountain communities are like many others in that we have homes from estates to cabins, residents from wealthy business owners to single, working moms, and retired folks to those just entering the workforce; all living together in a place they call home. Our Town, September 12 The eagle is considered the most majestic bird in many cultures. American Indians believe the Thunder Bird will carry the prayers of their people to the Great Spirit. Our Town, September 5 Boy, what a weekend I had last week! Since I retired, this body just doesn't recognize 5:00 a.m., but there I was trying to get moving in time to make it by 6:00 a.m. to go with Jim to help out at the annual Crestline Friends of the Library Book Sale. Our Town, August 29 First and foremost, I just have to thank everyone for their kind words and support for bringing "Our Town" to RIMOFTHEWORLD.net. As of writing this week's column, I find that 512 of you have taken the time to read my diatribe. Our Town, August 23 News Flash!!! Our Town will now appear weekly on RIMOFTHEWORLD.net! |
