Abuse and Rape Suspect Surrenders to Deputies

Booked at West Valley Detention Center

Crestline, CA – A 35-year-old Crestline man surrendered at the Twin Peaks Sheriff's Station yesterday afternoon after being sought on suspicion of spousal abuse and rape since early Tuesday morning.

Trevor Eugene Venard turned himself in just before 3 p.m. Wednesday and was booked at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga at 10:26 p.m. after being questioned by Detective Michael Pelkey.

Venard is accused of rape and is being held on $100,000 bail and domestic battery charges relating to an incident at a residence in the 500 block of Wildrose Lane in Crestline early Tuesday morning.

Deputies issued a media advisory with details of the incident.

"Venard and his live-in girlfriend had been drinking at a local bar," the release explained. "When the bar closed, the two left separately. The unidentified victim arrived at home later that evening and was met by Venard at the door. Upon entering the residence, Venard immediately assaulted the victim."

A report of the incident shows Venard allegedly slapped the victim repeatedly and then began to choke her with both his hands.

"During the attack," the investigating officers wrote, "Venard sexually assaulted the victim. The victim was able to break free, run from the scene and contact deputies."

Prior to deputies arriving at the Wildrose Lane address at about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, Venard fled the scene of the incident.

Apparently Venard had been negotiating his surrender with authorities since Tuesday morning as Sheriff's Department records show contact had been made prior to Wednesday afternoon's surrender.
