Marijuana Grow Uncovered in Cedarpines Park
58 Plants Seized as Investigation Continues
By G.T. Houts
Thursday, May 8, 2008
Cedarpines Park, CA – An alert San Bernardino County Sheriff's spotted several marijuana plants on the front porch of a residence in the 21500 Block of Sawpit Canyon Road in Cedarpines Park that led to the eventual seizure of 58 plants.
At 2:29 p.m. May 8, Deputy Gilbert Flores was patrolling in the area and observed several marijuana plants growing on the porch of the incident location.
Because of the possibility additional plants could be at the residence, the Marijuana Eradication Team (MET) was summoned and further investigation uncovered a total of 58 plants at the Cedarpines Park address. Ten of those plants were considered mature and the street value was in excess of $230,000.
MET officers reported the 58 plants were soil grown and that no arrests have been made in the case that is still under investigation.
More and more indoor grows are being discovered in residential areas. While most residential grows utilize sophisticated hydroponics equipment, the Cedarpines Park grow utilized traditional soil plantings, San Bernardino Sheriff's Department spokesperson Jodi Miller told RIMOFTHEWORLD.net.
Gordon Taylor, head of the California Drug Enforcement Agency's Sacramento office, recently told reporters, "There's clearly some benefits to growing indoors. You're not going to be able to see it from the sky with a helicopter or plane and you don't have to be concerned that hikers will stumble into your grow."
