Be Prepared for Winter: Home Energy Assistance ProgramHEAP Sign-ups Available Tomorrow By Michael P. Neufeld Big Bear, CA - Bear Valley Electric is offering assistance with home heating costs, to help ensure the safety of those individuals most in need. This includes children, the elderly, and the disabled, through the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP).
HEAP will help address the energy emergencies that low-income families face during the upcoming cold winter months, as the utility processes applications tomorrow, November 19, at 42020 Garstin Drive.
Low-income families in need of assistance with utility bills (gas or electric) may qualify for benefits through HEAP. High demand for applications processed earlier this year means a special process will be followed on Wednesday. The first 35 individuals, or families, in line will be processed from 9 a.m. to noon followed by 20 additional applications starting at 1 p.m.
HEAP offers an annual credit of up to $355 for low-income household families for electric or gas utilities. Additional HEAP program benefits include assistance for home weatherization and may include up to $240 for firewood or up to $350 toward propane.
