A special event permit and Lake Patrol services for the event that took place on Big Bear Lake's northern shore were recently approved to facilitate the race.

The actual race was scheduled for July 13 and was open to all levels of paddlers. The course will start and finish at Captain John's Fawn Harbor Marina in Grout Bay taking participants through and out and back route to the Big Bear Lake dam inside the 5-mile buoy markers. Entry fee is $50 per kayak or canoe.

The activities also included a raffle of prizes from Big Bear Valley area business owners.

Following the race an award ceremony will take place for first, second and third place finishers in the female and male kayak categories as well as the canoe category.
