Property Tax Appeals Due TodayAssessment Appeals Board to Review Requests By Michael P. Neufeld San Bernardino, CA – Time is running out for mountain property owners who want to appeal this year's property tax assessments.
Applicants who believe their home's value should be less than what has been calculated by the San Bernardino County Assessor have until today, December 1 to file their appeal.
The forms can be found at http://www.sbcounty.gov/assessmentappeals/ or picked up at one of several county locations. The main office is located at 172 West Third Street in San Bernardino, and can be reached at 1-877-885-7654 during normal business hours.
Satellite offices are located in Big Bear Lake and Twin Peaks, and both are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a closure between noon and 1 p.m.
The Big Bear Lake office is located at 477 Summit Boulevard, and can be reached at (909) 866-1655. The Twin Peaks facility is located at 267010 Highway 189, and inquiries should be directed to (909) 336-0650.

Taxpayers should know their parcel, or tax bill, number when they call. They should also and include the address of the property, and state and what they believe to be the property's market value.
Once the appeals application is received, the Assessment Appeals Board will review it.
The Assessment Appeals Board is a quasi-judicial body composed of three members, appointed by the board of supervisors. The board is administered by the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors, and is not a part of the Assessor's office.
Officials remind individuals filing an appeal; they are still required to pay their taxes on time. If the appeal is not successful, a penalty may be imposed if the taxes have not been paid in a timely manner. If an appeal is successful, an adjustment will be made.
