San Bernardino, CA — The San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters office has confirmed that a recall petition against County Assessor Bill Postmus has been received.
"The proponents of the recall have until 5 p.m. on Monday, November 17 to return 75,498 valid signatures of registered voters," Election Analyst Kathi Payne told RIMOFTHEWORLD.net.
Payne explained the petitions must contain 10 percent of the county's registered voters effective with the tabulation reported by the California Secretary of State on May 19, 2008.
"That's the nearest date to the day the recall petition was received by our office (June 9)," Payne explained.
"We don't publicize the circulation of petitions," Payne noted, "that's up to the proponents."

Monday, the San Bernardino County District Attorney obtained a warrant for the arrest of 25-year-old Adam Aleman from Rancho Cucamonga. The Assistant Assessor was arrested at 10:45 a.m. Monday, June 30, and charged with six felony counts alleging he prepared false evidence to be submitted to the Grand Jury, provided altered minutes and allegedly destroyed the hard drive of a laptop computer issued by the county.
Bail for Aleman was set at $150,000.
Supervisor Chairman Paul Biane issued a statement about the arrest. "I plan to bring forward for the board's consideration at next week's meeting a proposal to promote transparency and accountability in the area of ethics and to set minimum qualifications for the staff members of county elected officials."
Postmus, a former county supervisor, issued a brief media statement expressing shock at the arrest of Aleman.
"I would encourage the public to withhold judgment as this case is in the preliminary stages," Postmus' statement read.
