Wildfire Preparedness Day May 31
Agencies On hand to Assist Homeowners
By Michael P. Neufeld
Sunday, May 11, 2008
Twin Peaks, CA – Residents of the San Bernardino Mountains and foothills are invited to join the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), US Forest Service, San Bernardino County Fire Department, and Crest Forest Fire Department for a day of learning about how to prepare for the next wildfire that will impact the community.
The event will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 31.
Residents can tour a property with local foresters and fire service personnel near Grandview Elementary School in Twin Peaks to learn about fire-wise construction, proper tree and brush thinning, and other ways that landowners can protect their homes from wildfire while still maintaining a healthy forest on their property.

Additionally, residents will receive information about other measures that are being taken to protect the community, such as fuel breaks on nearby Forest Service land that provided vital protection during the Grass Valley Fire in the Fall of 2007.
Free parking will be provided at Grandview Elementary School at 180 Grandview Road in Twin Peaks, with the demonstration site located right next door. Other groups and programs, such as Forest Care, local Fire Safe Councils, County Code Enforcement, and the County Hazard Tree Removal Program will be present to answer questions and provide valuable information to landowners.
Residents should come prepared for a fun and engaging learning experience that could potentially save their homes in the event of future wildfires.
Please contact CAL FIRE at (909) 881-6900 for more information.
