San Bernardino, CA — On Sunday, April 27, 2008, at approximately 5 p.m., the San Bernardino Police Department's patrol helicopter, AIR1, was on a proactive patrol when the flight crew observed smoke coming from the area of East Hardt Street and South Tippecanoe Avenue, in San Bernardino. The crew flew to the scene to investigate. Upon arrival, they found three male juveniles walking away from a newly set fire in a wash said Sergeant B. Birnbaum of the San Bernardino Police Department.

The aircrew coordinated the response of the San Bernardino City Fire Department and additional police officers while keeping the juveniles in sight. Fire Department personnel extinguished the fire and investigated its cause while police officers contacted the juveniles.

The fire was determined to have been intentionally set and the three juveniles were placed under arrest for arson (Penal Code Section 451).
