Alert Neighbor Leads To Arrest

CRESTLINE - An alert Crestline resident notified sheriff's deputies Wednesday afternoon of a possible residential burglary of a neighbor's home along the 24-thousand block of Great View Drive. Deputies from the Twin Peaks Sheriff's Station arrived soon after the call, along with the Sheriff's Department Helicopter, and found David Edward Wilcox, 36, of Crestline exiting the residence.

Wilcox was arrested by deputies. No other suspects were found. According to deputies, it appeared that Wilcox was stealing a chainsaw from the residence at the time of the arrest. His vehicle was located in a driveway in the neighborhood with several items, including a second chainsaw and electrical wiring. Additional items from the residence were also stacked near the doorway by the suspect, according to the victim.

Wilcox, a repeat offender, has been had charges filed at least 12 times since 1998, according to San Bernardino County Court records. Aside from the eight traffic violations, Wilcox has also been charged twice with felony statutory rape of a minor in 1998 and drug possession in 2000. Wilcox served 10 days in jail for the 1998 offense. Wilcox is not a registered sex offender. Willcox also had a prior burglary conviction, according to deputies.
