Thunderstorm Threat To Continue Through Next Week

By RIMOFTHEWORLD.net
Tuesday, July 10, 2007

A moist flow of monsoonal moisture will continue the threat of thunderstorms through next week. An initial surge of moisture began spreading clouds and thunderstorms over the region on Monday evening. As the moisture increases this afternoon, thunderstorms will become more widespread. However, dry air near the surface is causing very little rain to reach the ground. This has increased the threat of fire from dry lightning enough for the National Weather Service to issue a Red Flag Warning. Additionally, any thunderstorms could produce strong gusty winds.

The threat of thunderstorms will diminish slightly on Wednesday and Thursday, with any storms remaining confined to the mountains and high desert. However another surge of moisture will push north out of Baja California on Friday bringing another round of widespread showers and thunderstorms. However, this weekend, there should be sufficient moist air near the ground to produce rain. In fact, up to 1 to 2 inches of rain could fall in some of the thunderstorms, leading to the risk of flash flooding.

This general weather pattern is expected to last at least through the Weekend and into next week.
