Armchair Lawyers In The Information Age

Well, another day in cyberland yields more angry emails and threats. It's amazing how utterly uniformed people are on the law and technology. In the latest spate of emails, RIMOFTHEWORLD.net is being threatened to be sued if we don't remove any references to a certain person. Well, let me let you read it for yourself...
| This is K**** M***** ,and I am telling you, not asking you, but telling you to DELETE any information on me, including past articles, and such of the past. That does not need to be on there anymore for google to find..If it is not done, ROTW.net and Google will face a lawsuit on hefty charges of reputation destroying... Email me back when this has been done. If I do not receive an email within the next week, I will file a lawsuit against both services.. K**** M***** **********.com ************ / ***** |
Really now? Exactly how does this work, KM? You come on to RIMOFTHEWORLD.net, violate our Terms of Service, threaten other people and the RIMOFTHEWORLD.net staff, and now want history changed? Well, I tell you what, you get Google.com and Archive.org to comply with your terms, first. Oh, yeah, and by the way, Buddy, you agreed in the Terms of Service that you would be liable for any clean-up costs for violations of our Terms of Service. And, with the email removal, IP blockage, and police reports we had to file on you, that places our time at about 38 hours. Which, according to our Terms of Service, is a counter lawsuit of $7,600, plus damages, plus legal fees. Have fun finding a lawyer.
And, in related news, evidently someone is hacking into Google Mail though the Meebo-owned Chat Rooms on RIMOFTHEWORLD.net. Not really. It's impossible. Well, it's more than impossible. More likely, they have access to the same computer that the complaining user is signing on from and they're reading their mail that way. And, even more likely, they're just making educated guesses and know how to use Google. But, in any case, we'll get the Google and Meebo engineers to work on this one. After all, there really might be a hole in the fabric of the universe. Only that would explain the recent emails.
