Formerly the Blood Bank of San Bernardino and Riverside Counties, the new name reflects a broader and more comprehensive approach to the organization's mission, LifeStream's public relations manager, Mary Kay Plock, told RIMOFTHEWORLD.net.
"We're more than just a blood bank; we're a partner in wellness with our community. We're offering health screening for everyone in the community," Plock said. "We recognize that we have to keep our donors healthy if they're to continue donating with us. Also, we're no longer geographically bound to San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. We're now servicing hospitals in Los Angeles and Orange Counties."
All healthy individuals are encouraged to donate blood. Youngsters 16 years of age must provide the LifeStream with written parental consent. Parental consent forms are available at any donor center or community blood drive venue.

Prospective donors must be free of infections or illnesses, weigh at least 110 pounds and are not at risk for AIDS or hepatitis. There is very little discomfort associated with giving blood and the risk of contracting any illnesses is next to impossible.
Donors will receive a coupon for a free Stater Bros. smoothie and "donor" points as part of the "Gift of Life" Donor Loyalty Program. These points can be redeemed for shirts, caps, health screenings and other items through LifeStream's online store.
