Found the site after the Old Fire.
I miss home (Angelus Oaks) as I was deployed by the Army Reserves in 2005. Still deployed forward (Tajikistan) and will be until next year. No idea about after that. This is the best way for me to stay connected though!

I found this site in 2003 during the Old Fire evacuation. IMO, this site and fireupdate.com were the only real source of reliable information about the fires during our 2003 and 2007 evacuations. We live in Twin Peaks, between the Old Fire and Grass Valley Fire boundaries.
I have visited the site (lurked?) on and off since 2003 and just recently started posting a little.

I've been here since the Old Fire. It happened 4 months after we moved here. Very upsetting. My profile says only on since this year, but that's because I didn't know I could request a change in my site name, so I signed on with a different version. In the early stages of the site there weren't too many people posting. Sugarloaf was the only really active thread.
I hear sirens or helicopters and I check out the alerts for info. Thanks Vicki.
I've met many wonderful people through the site. It's invaluable for newcomers to the mountain communities.
Lately I have been lurking more than posting, so I thought I should post here.

Believe it or not I was once a lurker too. I found out about ROTW during the Old Fire from a co-worker who lives in CPP. I loved listening to the banter of the Crestline Regulars. I eventually moved to Crestline and started chatting online. This website enabled me to meet so many wonderful people! I am a bit shy and have a hard time just walking up to people and making friends. ROTW allowed me to get to know people so when we did meet in real life I felt comfortable right away! Now I love to meet new people who post on here! I have yet to meet anyone I do not like.

Hi, I live in Crestline. I found this site during the year after the old fire. It was during the mudslides. My kids suggested that I start checking the site before driving up and down the hill. For a long time that is all I used the site for.
More recently I started "lurking" more often because I noticed alot more conversations going on. I like to leave this site on while I'm watching Tv because I find that many of the conversations here are more comedy then I can find on Tv. The people here are interesting, don't let anyone's abrasiveness scare you we are all just the same people you see in the grocery store!
Some of my favorite mountain pasttimes are taking walks on the trails around lake gregory and other, going to the summer concerts in lake arrowhead - I think they start in two weeks, or going to the movie theatre. If anyone wants to join me let me know by sending an email to Shelli.rotw@yahoo.com.
Sorry guys I didn't make it to DP's last night. When I got out on the RIM it was foggy enough to have to watch the center lines so I turned back. Hope everyone had a great time. Hope to meet more of you later on.

Uusually I check out ROTW before I head out in the morning and then log out, but often during the day I log in and leave it on all day regardless if I am lurking and/or chatting-discussing anything. Some times I am not even at home!
Sooooo...I think some of the 'signed in' members may be doing this too.
I first came onto ROTW in 2004 when I was an outreach worker for the Wildfire Project. I read all the Old Fire exchanges and the Cedar Glen discussions. At that time, my screen name was Tess or Tessa (I forget). I posted my first post under the name of Castine, which is why the 2005 'first posted' info is a later date than I remember.

I've been on ROTW since the Old Fire. When we came back our house was still standing - We felt for the folks who lost theirs and we helped where ever we could.
After the Grass Valley Fire I forgot my log on - I used to be Skyscraper and posted mostly in the Dogs Needing Homes threads. Now I am GAgain (Greatful Again). I enjoy all the personalities on the site and plan to particiapate more - keeps the mind sharp.
The news, alerts and gallery are some of my favorite areas and I viist them daily. Thanks ROTW staff, crew and voluntees for making this happen. ROTW is a model for what a great community site should be!

I don't remember how I found the site but I am glad I did. It has been a valuable resource and helped me aclimate to mountain culture when I move here several years ago.
I live in VOE.
I am not sure I qualify as a lurker anymore. I did lurk for several years and then, something made me set up an account. I guess I just felt I knew so many of you by then form all of your posts.

I found ROTW when I first moved up the hill in 2004. I was doing a general search for Crestline services and one of the hits was a thread from here. I post more on interest-specific message boards, so I'm not on here much. Sometimes I have questions "for the locals" that I post here, and people have been really helpful in answering them.
I was on vacation in Oregon last summer during the evacuation and ROTW was the only place I could find real info on whether I had a house to return to (I did).
