I have moved to Crestline last June and since then I have challenge myself on the roads on my MT Bike. I have be part of some charities rides but I confess that do it by yourself its a little bit bored. I ride my MT bike on trails and road.

Be carefull out there on the road. The drivers up here are dangerous. I sent my road bike up to my brother who commutes in Seattle, after coming very close to being killed twice in one day by soccer moms while doing training laps around Lake Gregory. They just weren't paying attention. Some drivers are ignorant to cyclists' rights and reponsibilities. Some just don't like people riding bikes on their road. Add narrow twisty roads and it's a recipie for disaster. For a place with potential, this turned out to be the worst place I have lived for road or mountain biking.

In Crestline, you can share the upper trail with walkers, joggers and strollers(or poach the lower trail in off hours.) Silverwood Lake has a bike path and trails. Heart Rock is short and sweet, with a couple of technical sections. There are trails behind the hospital in AH. Rim Nordic has a trail system and holds a cross country race series. The Exploration Trail in Deer Lick has a challenging four mile climb and fun decent, and can be linked to Rim Nordic or farther on, to BB. Alot of trails were burned in BB, but ask at the ranger station in Fawnskin for the low down on the open singletrack. Snow Summit has lift accesed riding in the summer. And finally, there are hundreds of miles of fire roads.

Almost forgot, there is the Santa Ana River Trail on the other side of the hill.

Hey Barry, I really appreciate your advice. I will try some of these trails. I just think it's always safely ride in 2 or more people on the trails plus it is more fun. Yep I agree with you, a lot of drivers don't care about us, they have no respect. Sorry about your accident, I'm glad you are alive.

I was just reading some posts from last June, and was surprised to see neagative comments about the previous owners of the Lake Inn at GVL. I can tell you for sure that the new owners (as of a month ago) are extremely bike friendly. My brother and I just bought it. I have been a fanatic about cycling since 1990, and have been racing road bikes since. I only mountain bike for fun now, most of my training is still on the road. Funny thing though, I feel safer riding the 18 to Baldwin Lake from GVL than I do on some of the roads in Orange County. But I never take that for granted, and keep my ears and eyes wide open.
As for the races at the "Rim", I was curious about that. I have seen bikers there, obviously for some sort of organized race. I have been thinking of heading over there to see about donating/sponsoring to promote business for the Lake Inn Restaurant.
As you can see by my screen name, keep an eye out for some new brew on the mountain. Cheers, Eric.

GVL Brew,
I was happy to see your post. Kerry and Bev Brown are the owner/operators of Rim Nordic and GVL Nordic. They are great people.
I have put the Lake Inn at the top of my list for the next time we eat out. I will make a point to introduce my wife and I to you when we come in.
