fastelk: Can I be on your research team??? By the way I hate the Dodgers:)

fastelk. great to have informed and intelligent people on ROTW. you respond with facts.
i can't imagine how anyone could think mccain/palin ticket would be anything but the continuation of more of the same. frank krugman (nobel prize winner) has said a mccain presidency equals depression! not to mention all the republicans going out for obama, mostly because they say palin was a bad choice,is not ready to be president and reflects on mccain's really bad judgment.
http://www.charlierose.com/shows/2008/10/23/1/a-conversat... another thing that affects me and scares me a lot is mccain's healthcare plan. mccain we will be taxing us on employer healthcare. the so called $2,500 tax rebate per person (or$5k per family) will fall short $8,000. but worst than that and per wall street journal, mccain's plan would lead to losing employer based healthcare. at this point my daughter is diabetic and would not be covered because of her pre-existing condition. i for one am glad that barack obama believes healthcare is a "right" for all americans.

that is beautiful!!
I think my favorite line is:
"he was willing to think in my presence"
thanks for sharing

Not only is Obama "not afraid to think in (his) presence as (he) asked him these questions," nor does Obama resort to a canned discussion or talking points... (much like others of us on this list)but John Klein makes some other valid points.
Bush/McCain are fond of saying that "You gotta rely upon the boots on the ground to tell you what's going on and what we need to do" (in Iraq). Well... Obama does - but not BLINDLY nor is he afraid to tell them "how the cow ate the cabbage" as my mom would say:
On the issue of strategy for pulling out troops from Iraq Klein states that - in talking with General David Howell Petraeus - Obama "went back into Patraeus's face" saying we needed a "broader view on National Security Strategy." (Oh, my! A president with a backbone instead of hubris!)
He also states that Obama and Patraeus "seemed to be thinking alike" on Afghanistan. "Both Patraeus and Obama are both in favor of negotiating with the Taliban. That makes John MCCain - who doesn't want to negotiate with our enemies - the odd man out."
He goes on to reiterate that Obama wants to make "Alternative energy number one priority" in his tenure. Why? Because - not only for economic stimulation by recalibrating closed factories into Green Factories making new sources of automobiles and reusable sources of energy - but also the JOBS it will create, as well as the trickdown economy for the country from folks with jobs who aren't worried about if they'll have a job on Monday and they can spend a few bucks on Johnny or Suzy's birthday and Christmas! That's retail job stimulation, GDP stimulation, Import stimulation...
Whew! All this talk of "stimulation" makin' me all tingly!
The interview shows Obama is also not afraid of giving bad news because he was candid enough to state "for the last 20 years we've been running on easy credit and we can't do that any more" and he's RIGHT.
Klein goes on to state on VERY importation difference between McCain and Obama - About Obama he was impressed with how "even his keel is in such a young man..."
It was SUCH a candid moment when McCain tried to pull the "okie dokie" on the economic crises and RUSH back to Wash DC to "help cut the deal" on the 700B boondoggle bailout so he could get the credit ... only to arrive 1 1/2 hours AFTER congress had seemingly resolved the deal on it's own - only to THEN discover it WASN'T a done deal in any way shape or form! This man is more nutty than Grandma's fruit cake! At that moment in time, McCain and the GOP, became as transparent as tracing paper as to who and what they are... money hungry egotists.
Ever ask "Why" McCain feels he can justify a comment that Obama's plan will mean "MORE TAXES" when the statements and evidence points just the opposite? Because - like the line in "It's a Wonderful Life" - "McCain's not selling! McCain's BUYIN'!" McCain is BUYIN' the support of his rich 2%ers upon whom taxes WILL be raised to benefit the 98% of the rest of us working stiffs! HEll NO he doesn't want a plan in place that will "share the wealth" because it's HIS WEALTH and that of his cronies!
"Quality we haven't seen in in recent presidents and that quality is maturity." I'll take the young man with a plan over the old phart with an agenda any day.

Tim needs to close this thread also. It is political.

I think it is a bit extreme to segregate political talk to a ghetto labeled politics, especially in such a watershed year. Ideas are freeform and concepts or issues sometimes organically pop up in community rooms. To arbitrarily close threads because a discussion occurs is inappropriate.
If someone complains because they are queasy around discussion, let them learn a valuable lesson about how important such discussion is to Democracy. If you sanitize the chat rooms too much you destroy the dynamism and spontaneity some of us seek. Pounding us into vanilla mush is contrary to the vibrancy that generates revenue to the site owners.

Virtually any topic (maybe not bird watching) can turn "political" in nature. Especially if it involves money, religion, power, and/or status.
Just because we're all tired of 2008 election politics (including me), doesn't mean we should plop all political ideas into the dark dungeon of the political threads imho.

Politics or free speech. If someone does not want to read about it in "communities" then they have the finger power not to open that thread. Isn't the idea behind all writings is to evoke others thoughts? Why should something be limited to one area? What has this community come to? If people are complaining let them start their own thread.
Sent: Wednesday, October 29, 2008 06:54 PM
It should be limited to the area designated for that topic instead of being all over every freaking section on this website. Lots of us are sick of hearing it. I'm not the only on glad to see the threads closed and I'm not the only one who will be very happy to have this stinking election be OVER AND DONE WITH!

Here's another one you can close, Tim!!!!! Thank you!
Sent: Wednesday, October 29, 2008 06:58 PM
This thread, and all threads having to do with politics, need to be in the Political rooms, not in the Community chat rooms.
It is obvious that this thread was started with the intention of being political in nature. Please respect the separate sections of this site that have been established.
Thank you Peg.
Tim
