Hello Everyone!
Last year (not this past spring but the spring before that) my neighbor chopped down a tree in his yard and gave me the logs. They're big, I'd say slightly over a foot by foot and a half. Now, I don't have the strength or proper know how to chop them into manageable pieces for my wood burning stove (Until now I've never lived in an area where wood was needed like this, so please excuse my inexperience), and to rent a wood chopper would be 80+ dollars and I just can't afford that right now, and considering the amount of wood, I'm half betting for that money I could buy more pre-chopped stuff, but then I'd still have all these logs sitting around.
I know it's a long shot but would anyone be willing to trade these logs for some chopped wood? My neighbor said they're still probably green (although after over a year I'm not really sure, but they haven't been tarped)
Another alternative is does anyone know anyone who would chop them for cheap? I know it's a lot to ask but I figured I would anyways. Thank you advance for your help!

You can't burn or really even chop green wood. Get them up off the ground, let them cure a couple years (one to two should do it) and buy yourself some fire wood for the winter.

Adding: If you don't see deep cracks on the grain of the logs, then they aren't ready for splitting. Thought I'd mention that. Pick one up, if it's still heavy it's still green.

I think it was stated that it was over a year old.
Call anyone who sells wood and try to make a deal with them. And I suggest that you get something in writing. We did that with some wood we had and no time to split it. They were happy to get it and we were happy to get split wood back!
Where are you located? What town? I suggest one of the Nursery's that sell wood. There is one in Rim Forest, Cedar Glen and I assume Ace Hardware in Crestline. I wouldn't deal with Joe Blow the local wood cutter as you might never see any wood. Now some of them are highly professional but get recommenadions if you use one of them.

Thanks for all the really helpful advice guys! Anything I can learn about this sort of thing is really valuable, so I really appreciate it.
Also, I'm in Crestline, so I'll go to Ace Hardware and see if they can suggest anything.

Do you still have your rounds? I would be willing to split all your wood, and I'll take half for doing it. Sound good?
Contact me at dueladot@yahoo.com. I also live in Crestline, and have a truck.

What kind of wood is it? Some green wood is easier to split, depending on type.

Hi Everyone, I remember hearing in school that fireplaces actually suck more heat out of a house than anything. I did a little research online which backs it up. Any thoughts?

I still have the wood, I'm not sure what kind it is unfortunately, I'm sorry I'm unable to be more descriptive, the neighbor just kinda, dumped the wood on my lawn and was like "here you go!" Very nice, but yeah, not sure what kind.
I appreciate the offer to split it and take half but the thing is, the reason I'm posting is because I need firewood, I'd rather pay for the job so I can keep as much wood as possible.

I understand, because I could use the wood, too.

Keep me in mind if nothing else comes up.
