Very impressive LeeR.

Thanks Mitty. My going-away plaque from there calls me a "disaster junkie," which is a title I definitely deserve. I like volcanos and earthquakes, which is one of the reasons I live about 3 or 4 miles as the crow flies in two directions from the San Andreas Fault. Next month I get to go back into the Cascades, which I love (the Seattle area this time) and hope to add to my Cascade volcano shots. Here are a few:

LeeR,
Those photos are ALL really wonderful.
I love the Mt. Mazama, Oregon one.
And the Mt. Adams, Washington pictures are magical.
And Mt. Shasta!!
Unreal. Thanks for sharing!
I am glad there are people like you who see these places and like to share too.

My recent trip to Northern California - Old Folsom, Old Sacramento, Nevada City, Alburn, 2 historic cemeteries, a Sacramento garden, and the Korean War Memorial in Santa Nella (taken on the trip back home). No spectacular photos, and would have liked to take more, but was limited to weekends for fun.

Margo, looks like you got off the road and found some great shots. I also see you're taking closeup animal shots of nice old horses and are staying a little distance away from the bulls lately. Thanks for sharing and welcome home.

Lee...Nice old horses are much safer than bulls I learned my lesson!
Might try to go somewhere not to far away this weekend just to see what I can find. Down 138 like you did sounds like a good idea.

Take some photos for me. I'll be herding around some high school science club kids from three schools doing water sampling. Watch out for snakes!

Thanks again Mitty. I just make excuses in life to get out there like Margo does. Mix business with pleasure when you can. I love Mt Mazama too as she is now but I hope I'm around when she blows again. Here are some better shots of it:

Thanks Lee,
Very eerie and beautiful at the same time. How stunning that area is.
I love all the photos with snow, water, and sky; the close up of Wizard Island is my favorite.
Is that a top of the volcano?? I understand the water is in the crater.

The crater is the remnant of the posthumously named Mount Mazama, which exploded about 7,000 years ago with a force 42 times that of the eruption of Mt. Saint Helens in 1980. The explosion blew 5,000 feet off of the mountain. Lava then sealed the crater, and over a few hundred years, the lake filled with precipitation. There are no watershed outlets or inlets--it's just evaporation and precipitation. These photos were taken on June 18, 2006 and there was still 8 feet of snow in many place along the rim. At more than 1,900 feet deep, Crater Lake is the deepest lake in North America and the seventh (some say 9th) deepest in the world. I tried at the time to put that depth in perspective with a little research: If the tallest skyscraper in the world (Taipei 101) in Taiwan, which is called one of the Seven New Wonders of the World, were placed at the deepest part of the lake, its roof would still be submerged almost 500 feet below the lake's surface. That's why I'm partial to the older Wonders of the World, and I would call this place one of them.

P.S., Taipei 101 was recently overtaken last fall by a building in Dubai, whose roof would still be nearly 300 feet below the lake's surface.

Thanks Margo. Hey, here's another fairly harmless creature for you. At lunchtime today at Lake Gregory I shot this trout who seemed to be having fun making nice ripples on the surface of Lake Gregory.
