I have looked in several places today and no one had any onion set. I quess I will order online with directgardening.com if I can't find any locally. With 3/4 small green onions at 79 cents and a pack of onion seeds around a $1 I will grow my own. Sets are more expensive. Last fall I planted a package of onion seeds and they are about ready to eat now. Next fall I will remember to plant even more of them at different times. Maybe one planting really early in the spring too. Sure is cheaper. I can't wait to get my veggies in the ground. A little too early for me.

I planted garlic from cloves that I got at goodwins that started to get shoots....didn't eat them quick enough. They have lasted through winter and hey I have lots of garlic now. I plant green onions after I use the tops and the always grow but never make it though winter. I swear I saw onion sets at home depot. let one go to seed..save the seeds and start your own sets for next year. onions seed like crazy. I have small wild pearl onions I can't get rid of, can't eat em quick enough and they reseed like.. o.k. enough guys. good luck. with the price of food I think the victory garden will come back. I have spinach, lettuce, radishes, corn, squash and tomatoes now growing between my flowers so I still enjoy the blooms but I get veggies too. Straight rows of veggies are so boring and predictable.

I think I will order online so I have some onion sets all summer. They grow faster and you can just keep them in the refrigerator until you need them. I did buy snapdragons yesterday. At least they are pretty and bloom all summer but not sure if I can eat any of it!
