I have a huge (in every way) heavy winter coat. It's clean and new looking, only been worn a few times, and never for anything other than walking to the car and back... it's green, looks good, and would is big enough to keep a small family warm (okay, it's not quite THAT big, but, really, my 6'2" 200 lb. self is lost inside that thing... makes me look like a munchkin.

Is it just me, or is it a little weird for a thrift store to be soliciting your donation like this?
Sent: Tuesday, November 3, 2009 03:56 PM
I personally will only donate to thrift stores that are for charity, so yeah I agree with you.
KDOG, if you want to donate your coat to charity they are having a coat drive at southwest gas, here is the link:

I think the thrift stores in BJ and CR are run by the seniors. I think RS is charity also. There is a winter coat drive going on, too. See the news list.

It is weird, Errant.
I'm sure most people are aware of the fact the Thrift Stores take donated clothing, etc. As a matter of fact...they probably would take most of the items offered on the "Free" thread.
It's nice to have options...free is free. Once it's in a Thrift Store it will cost something.
BTW...The Coat Drive is a good thing!

Kdog should do what he/she wants with his/her belongings. Thanks for offering, Kdog. Gosh.....

I was offline for a while... did I miss something? It sounds like people are responding/ reacting to a post that was maybe pulled?!?

Lovemypups, thanks for the link... unfortunately, I won't be able to get out there before the end of today (which is when it appears the coat drive donation ends)... anybody know of any other winter coat drives still in effect?

Yep, a post was pulled. A local for-profit thrift shop was offering to take it off your hands so that they could sell it.

I have a question about one particular thrift shop.... Is the thrift shop in Cedar Glen an actual charity for a cause (i.e. seniors)? The prices are fairly steep and I would rather frequent a thrift shop that would benefit a cause.

Ahhhh... thanks for the update, Errant. Well, I can't blame anybody for asking, but I only want to pass it on to an individual (or charity/ coat drive) who can wear it, without any exchange of money happening...

Kdog, My daughter is approx. 5ft. 7 and maybe 190lbs. How would it look on her? I mean would it drag the ground or is it a shorter style?

Jules - the thrift shop in CG is a for profit operation. There is no charity involved.

The thrift shops in BJ, CL, and RS are charity oriented.

Thank you OldGuy, now I understand the "WHY". I'd rather support a thrift shop that would benefit a cause to help our community.

FMN- it would be huge on her.... it's entirely too big for me (6'2, 200 lb. dude). It's sort of a ski-jacket style, I guess... it's not made for dressing up for a night out dining at Fleming's, just for keeping warm in a blizzard. You are certainly welcome to it, if she doesn't mind swimming in a vast sea of jacket--- it WILL keep her warm--- but it would look pretty big on her.

Thank you so much Kdog, I will sure pass this info on to her, Maybe I should take it, as we just got the news that we can't use our fireplace. We've used it for 5 yrs. not realizing that we could burn our house down along with the mountain. Maybe it would keep a couple of our kids warm if we have a power outage. LOL. Thanx again!

Kdog, thanx! My daughter just got a new coat, and it fits her! Good Luck and thank you for the opportunity.

I still have it... it's all yours, Tina. I wrote your number down, so if you want to pull your post now (to get your phone number off of the site), I'll give you a call later today (you may not want me calling right now... 6:30 AM)...
