About A Classified Ad

Many years ago I did unbiased thorough research on home air cleaners -- for personal reasons because we had a family member with allergies. The more I learned, the more I became positively infuriated with the dangerous and ridiculously expensive EqoQuest products, their multi-level marketing scheme, and the clueless celebrities, including Dr Laura and Bill Handel (paid, of course) who personally endorsed these dangerous machines.

The manufacturer and marketing executives of EqoQuest have been in court quite often over the years, but this scam persists nevertheless. They have always sworn, and still do, that they never authorize any "representative" to claim that the EqoQuest ozone-emitting machines provide any health benefits. Finally and Thank Goodness, California has enacted a law that will ban them entirely for home use, but not until 2009, unfortunately.

Well! Here we go again, there is a current ROTW ad that claims that Eqo-Quest helps with asthma ("truly!"

"Relief From Smoke! - EcoQuest Fresh Air will neutralize & remove smoke & odors from air, carpet, furniture, etc. Helps w/ athsma, Truly! 3-day risk free trial. Visa/MC. Mtn resident 800-531-9371 x4."

If anyone wants to read copious documentation going back maybe a decade about EqoQuest, I probably still have it stored on my computer and will be happy to dredge it all up again upon request. In the meantime, please do not fall for this and waste a great deal of money while putting your family and pets in danger.

PS: The "illegal" in my title refers to the ad's claim for asthma relief. Currently it is not illegal to sell these machines to hapless customers, but it is illegal to claim health benefits.

And yes, I did write to those celebs who gave personal endorsements and who I thought might care about their own reputations for credibility (that leaves Handel out, LOL). I was not favored with any replies, but the endorsements have ended, as far as I know.

I will admit that I was sold on the air cleaner with the endorsements of Dr. Laura and Bill Handel several years ago. I do not have any information on the health risk of this product, but what I do know is that machine itself became corroded very quickly from mineral deposits from the water and a wire shorted out. I returned the product and it was replaced but the same thing happened within a few weeks. It went in the trash. It was another "too good to be true" experience for me.
