In response to the original post-all I know is what little was relayed to me by a co-worker whose boyfriend works up here. Someone stole a boat and were joy riding on the lake when they hit something (dock possibly) and launched the boat. I believe she said there were 5 people involved.

If anyone else knows the whole story, please fill in the blanks and correct the things I may have screwed up. I'm actually kind of surprised there was no story on this in the news section.

Interesting that there was possibly some big news like a stolen boat, accident, helicopter...etc. and there is no story on it yet.
Who was the driver?
Where they drunk?
Was the boat stolen?
Who's boat was it?

This is good stuff. Where is our ROTW news staff?

Car_Nut,

I am just a volunteer on the scanner team, as are most...

I apparently don't have, nor is it on the official list, Arrowhead Lake Patrol frequencies programmed into my scanner. I suspect that because it is a private lake that they don't have a public frequency that is published. If you know the frequency, please send it to me at rsmountainoakathotmaildotcom. I would really like to add it to my scanners to better provide information to the community

Thank you!

My two cents. Last Friday around 2:00 a.m., someone rammed a boat unto a dock and gangway near the dock that is used for fishing by the grassy park area on the peninsula, damaging the dock and gangway. I'm unclear if the boat sunk or not, I drove my boat by the accident area later in the day and saw no evidence of a sunken boat but I did see some debris in the water. I was told divers had been in the water looking for bodies and none were found, I'm also unclear whether the boat was stolen or who was in the boat when the accident happened. The dock and gangway looked like they were hit at a somewhat high rate of speed, especially when nightime maximum speed is only 10 MPH.

...and BTW, the sheriff and fire departments were there when I arrived, it looked like they were getting ready to leave.

We saw the fire dept. there much earlier in the day. Before noon but I can't recall just what time. They didn't seem to be in a rush to do anything. Maybe two events?

No Coral, it happened early in the morning, you probably saw a mop up effort! Plus investigation.

Anyway, I was just curious, as were my friends, and this site seems to be the ONLY way to find out. Thanks to everyone! (

Yes they(rotw) do have access to the CHP info, but, I doubt Chp has any jurisdiction on our lake

The scanner has lake patrol. I usually delete it because it is pretty boring. We see the fire dept. down there a lot and it never seems like anything unusual. Of course, there are accidents at the lake but not enough to cause concern. IMHO

Lake Arrowhead Lake Patrol operates primarily on 155.160 MHz. This is a Search and Rescue Common Land frequency that can be monitored on just about any scanner. Busy during summer, quiet as a mouse in winter. You might hear them rounding up stray boats, responding to boating/skiing accidents, towing or battery-jumping disabled boats, facilitating the water ski races, checking for myriad lake use violations, issuing ALA citations, etc. They are easy to spot visually when they use their flashing blue lights.

Listen, too, on the marine radio channels.

Across the mountain, you can hear Big Bear Lake Patrol on 155.840 MHz.
