ARCO is a very bad corporate entity.

That is not entirely true... They were bought out years ago by British Petroleum.

Check the tiny stickers on the pumps

Buellwinke, WeekendR and Longtimeplanner got it right. The cashier at the former Shell station told me that the station is going to convert to a Chevron station. Ironically, there used to be a Chevron just across the street where Starbucks now stands. I have to agree with the comments about Chevron and ARCO. All the Chevron stations I have seen have been clean, respectful operations. All the ARCO stations (ARCO also operates the Thrifty branded stations and this comment includes them) have been trashy operations. There is a Thrifty gas station in Riverside off of 14th street that looks worse than the one on 40th street in San Bernardino (if you can believe that). I avoid ARCO and Thrifty. My picks are Chevron, 76, Shell, Valero, Costco, and 7-Eleven. And by the way, I worked twelve years for two Chevron dealers (Art's Corner in Aqua Fria / Blue Jay run by Art Weiss and Lake Arrowhead Chevron which was run by Bud Grove and his family). The old Art's Corner building now houses Prime Properties Real Estate and Lake Arrowhead Chevron was located where the vacant lot is on Highway 173 between the Presbyterian Church and Fire Station 91 before Lake Arrowhead Village.

At about the time they were bought by BP, they got even worse. They don't give a rat's patooty about the communities they locate in.

Hey Dolphin, I work in Brea too......consider the odds....lol. If I have cash and I rarely do, i'll go to Arco, otherwise I'm a Costco girl.

Kathy....who paid $3.77 at Costco off the 210 at Sierra on Friday.

High Five's CrestlineKathy,

My mom's been telling me to get a Costco membership because of the gas savings and I just haven't had the time to go do it lately. But it's on my list for this upcoming holiday weekend. I spent over six hundred dollars in gas last month. I feel violated every time I fill up. LOL

We should talk about a possible Carpooling. If prices get much higher, I'm going to get a scooter.

We'll find out soon what it's going to be as they are painting the canopy blue with a gold stripe, which is not chevron typically. Their gas prices have dropped enough I stopped to buy gas. The truck was there downloading (I've heard you are never supposed to pump gas when the truck is there as it stirs up sediment in the tank). They had no signs up but they were out of gas until the truck got done. I was so p@@sed! Once again I vow not to go back to that foul place. Then I went to the Thrify down the street. What an awful station and I don't carry that much cash - you get penalized for using a card! I've got to plan better. Going to Costco tonight.

If you go just a few blocks up by the freeway there is the Waterman Valero station. That station is not too bad and usually has been a little cheaper than the former Shell station.

That Valero is more in line with our local Valeros than the one further south on Waterman below Baseline. It has some of the highest prices I've seen.

Employers should be obligated to pay at least 50% of their employees transportation cost.

"Employers should be obligated to pay at least 50% of their employees transportation cost."

That's one of the BRIGHTEST ideas I have read on ROTW in a very long time. Taking that idea one step further, we should mandate employers to pay us to stay home until gas prices dip below $1.99/Gal.
