Hey Scott, already told you this one; Getting alerts is great, and I think adding keyword filtering to this in the future would be even better - just another way to keep email traffic down...
Thanks

I'm still waiting for my account to be activated, so I don't know how it works yet. But I'm with the previous post...if you end up with EVERY alert it won't be usable. Hopefully you can filter on "FIRE" or whatever interests you. Otherwise, it's too much email to be getting on a cell phone.

I'm activated and it is way too much for the cell.....mine is only for my home puter, nothing sent to cell. I've had a number of e-mails the morning. I like it.

What if you set it to only send critical alers to your cell, LAN? That's what I've done, but won't know what that looks like until something critical happens.

I've been naughty and ordered a blackberry(which of course I will spend the summer learning how to operate lol) so I will be able to access my e-mail on the road without a laptop. I always have access to a puter at work and do check it prior to heading home and my hood buds usually alert me to emergenices.
I do like the feature.

These are currently the options you have for the Alerts:
1. Nothing
2. All News And Incident Alerts
3. Breaking News, and Major and Critical Incident Alerts
4. Critical Incident Alerts Only
News articles are any of the standard or breaking news articles posted to the site. Incident Alerts are those visible on the Alerts Tab. Major Incidents are in orange and Critical Incidents are in red. CHP Alerts will not be sent, only Incident Alerts reviewed by our Alerts Team.
You have the option of having Alerts sent to your primary email address, a secondary email address, and/or your cell phone - and you can make different choices for each one.
Scott is working on the keyword filtering option....

I activated mine last night, and applied the filters with critical incidents only going to the cell. So far, I've received several emails and only one alert was sent to the cell for the only critical incident that occurred this morning.
Seems to be working well. WTG ROTW! Thanks!!!

This kind of thing is bound to become more popular now that cell phones have become way better about handling email. I have an iPhone...and managing email on that thing is almost as easy as on the computer. So these kinds of services are actually now practical. And if your phone also implements a reasonable web browser (the iPhone is great)...visiting the website after receiving an email is a cinch. Even while on the road.
The iPhone has such a simple way of snapping photos and emailing them that I was inspired to build a photo gallery thing that allows you to quickly snap a photo with your cell, email it to a special address...and have it instantly appear on a website...with comments if you put them in the email. It takes seconds to post photos. I'm adding that feature to Mountainnut.com real soon now. I figure that it will be useful during the next local fire. Or orgy. Whatever.
These blackberry's and cell phones (like the iPhone)...are gonna change the way we communicate...integrating the web even tighter into our daily lives. It's pretty cool.

FYI - An key word filters option has been added.
Filter:
You can limit the alerts you receive by specifying filter words. Then, only alerts that contain those words will be sent. Separate words with commas. For example, "Lake Arrowhead, Fire, SR18" will limit your alerts to alerts that contain at least one of those words. (Optional)
