We noticed that the parking lot in Cedar Glen is being sort of marked off. Not a professional job so not sure who is doing it but yesterday we saw where the little park strip was marked off. I guess RDA is going ahead with it no matter what we think?

Coral:
When you say, "I guess RDA is going ahead with it no matter what we think", are you referring to the new sign, bus stop and store-fronts' beautification projects?
If so, there was a meeting some months ago at the fire station when it was decided to go ahead with all of that.
If not, what are you referring to?

I think she is referring to the 70+ foot bus stop/day worker waiting area that the RDA showed off with great fanfare at the meeting at LAE.
Everybody there suggested they put it somewhere else. Where the sun don't shine was mentioned a lot.

You can see drawings here:
http://quadstate.org/rda/documents/cedar_glen/20090625_rd...It is projected to cost 250k, so it will probably end up closer to 400k. Wouldn't it have been nice of them to pay the loan off instead?

Why are we getting a day worker waiting area? Every other community is getting rid of these. Don't we have enough of a problem with these guys hanging out at the Post Office? Hasn't anybody else noticed the people that have been living in the area behind the Chef's Inn and before Hook Creek Road for the longest time? Now what is going to happen when you welcome them with open arms, and provide a rest area for them? Are they also going to have bathrooms for them as well? If not, where will they go? It seems nothing we say matters to our new Supervisor. I predict a one term wonder for this guy.

Thanks, OG! I did mean the "Island" and thanks for the pix. We missed that meeting because we were still in the desert and I was still recovering from surgery. Since the majority of our PAC members do not live in CG they probably didn't care one way or another. I think the Island is a big mistake. The signs are okay but taking away parking and turn arounds for trucks and busses is going to make it hard for businesses. Not to mention that you are putting a hazard for kids right in the middle of the parking lot. I would not begin to let a child or grandchild of mine to wait there without supervision. Have you ever been around there when parents drop off kids or wait for kids in the afternoon. They park all over and kids run free in and out of cars. It is crazy! I don't think this was thought out and obviously Suverkrup is going along with the whole thing.

Looking at the pics, they may be planning on putting it on county roadway. It looks to be where Oak Terrace (the roadway) might be.
The taggers will love it.

CedarGlenner, I don't think they consider it a Day Labor waiting area but we all know it will be. I wonder how the bus will drive in and then turn around with that much of the parking lot missing. If they back up, that is dangerous and isn't that illegal, Old Guy? And if any of these businesses every come back the parking will be a mess. They claim they took all of this into consideration and there is plenty of room for a bus or truck to turn around. Then with Jane's Storage units it seems like it is going to get pretty crowded.
The Post Office pays for about 35 spaces just for their customers. The way it is now people park all over the place and sometimes right in Oak Terrace because they don't know that street is there. Looks like fun!

They call it a "pedestrian Island for bus kids and strolling public".
We sure have a lot of strolling public.
There is room for the buses to make a U-turn right around it as long as there aren't 45 SUV's parked willy-nilly waiting to pick up the kids.
Coral, backing up is not illegal, the buses do it all the time.

There was a boy killed in Washington State from a bus backing up. I remember it well and he was the son of the local State Trooper. They put a law in about backing up when kids were present. I remember this coming up at Rim and when a bus was backing up by the Glass Fire Station. I thought they said it was illegal here too. I must have been wrong.

It is legal for the bus to back up when the kids are on it, not when they are getting off. The buses in CG often back up to make the turn befofre the kids are let loose. Once all the kids are off, the driver does a visual check and then pulls out forward.
Quite often there are two buses at the same time, and no kids are allowed off until both buses are stopped.
A lot of these idiot parents pull out while the bus is stopped and the lights are flashing. THAT is illegal.
