I have a friend who works for a company with a SoCal division and a NoCal division. The company has expressed a desire to do something to help the families who have lost their homes in this fire. They were thinking of adopting a family through the holidays, taking care of their their needs on some level or somehow helping with clean up. They'd like to do something more personal and hands-on than donation money to an organization. Can anyone tell me where they could get some ideas of what they could do?

Peg, Try the church organizations for leads. There are several outstanding charity groups up here right now, just looking for folks to help. Many people are too proud to seek assistance. You are looking for the person or family who is/are slipping through the cracks. Someone who is in the background. It won't take as much looking as it seems. The groups I mentioned will most likely have a candidate readily in mind. God Bless you in your search, and God Bless the company who wishes to help us after such a devestating loss.

We can lose our home and posessions, treasured photos and memories. But we can not lose our Spirit. We can rebuild our homes and lives. We can reassemble photos from friends and family to whom we have gifted photos to over the years. Memories are ours to keep. The American Pioneering and Mountain Spirit will keep us standing and moving forward. We will get back to normal with time, patience and help from our community.

God Bless you all!

I like the Church idea also. Or Operation Provider. The Salvation Army is working with OP. Adopting a family is a good thing. We all got a food basket for Thanksgiving after we lost our home in the Old Fire. It was a real feel good time to know that people cared enough to put a basket on our doorstep.

Operation provider does wonderful work and I know Holland could use all the help she can get right now. She has a list of 400 families that have asked for assistance.

Wow, 400? Somehow they need to make it easier for us to donate. I realize they have a problem since some of their people have lost their homes but a lot of people want to help now.

Do they have a web site?

We are going to be moving to Crestline towards the end of December from Illinois. My boyfriend has been a carpenter for years. Does anyone know how he could get licensed so he can become an independent contractor?

Coral

I found this:

Operation Provider is in need of donations and contributions to help our community members with their unmet needs, so if you are in a position to help, please contact them at (909) 337-8585 or send donations to P.O. Box 26, Twin Peaks, CA. 92391. Their tax ID is #522243409
