Okay bbdeputy, I actually do have a question.

What is the status of Raymond Lee Oyler, the suspect in the Esparanza fire? Nothing has been on the news for months.

Specifically, has he ever been linked to the Old Fire? There was talk of this in the beginning, even though he bears little resemblance to the sketch of the Old Fire suspect. People would still like to see someone named in that one, since it affected our communities so much.

There is a website for the Superior Court of California County of San Bernardino, http://www.co.san-bernardino.ca.us/courts/flash.asp. You can look up case information online and go to the traffic and criminal case information. You can search by case number or defendant. It will give you the court minutes and outcome of the various cases.

I checked on Raymond Lee Oyler and he has only three cases that were filed by the District Attorney. The last one he plead guilty to possession of methamphetamine in 2001. This information provided by the website is public knowledge.

I do not see anything else that had been file by the District Attorney as of yet. I will be getting back to you with any updated information.

Oyler has case information in the Riverside County courts system.

http://public-access.riverside.courts.ca.gov/OpenAccess/

This is the link to his PC187 charges {and more} for the Esperanza Fire. {Case RIF133032}

Jury Trial is scheduled for 06/06/2008 AT 8:30 AM DEPT. 31

I haven't heard or read anything more about the Old Fire either and would be interested to see if there has been any further information....

Thank you very much VickiW for your information. It appears the Riverside Courts website works in the same manner as the San Bernardino County Courts website. Thanks again BBDeputy

Thanks BBdeputy and Vicki.

BBdeputy, is there still a website that has the sketch of the Old Fire suspect, and if so, could you post it here in case someone wants to look at it again? A year ago I spoke to one of the detectives from Central, and down there, they couldn't even find the sketch.

Thanks!

Here is one article with pictures, that is still on the internet.

Personally, I think Oyler is a dead ringer for the composite drawing. He has the chin, the top lip and the v-shaped eyebrows. If you superimposed longer hair on him, I think it would remarkably like the drawing. The main thing is, he is bad news anyway, and we need him off the streets!

News reports stated that the authorities had located the van, the van's owner but not the driver. What's up with that?

Or was this again an 'accurate accounting' by our fine media sources??

Thanks, Lynne!

Kathy, good question about the van. I believe they did locate the van and the owner, but said the owner was 'not involved.' Yet they never explained how this failed to produce a lead if the van really was the one in question.

I spoke to a detective about the Old Fire about a year ago. The detective originally on the case has retired, and at that time, no one could find the Old Fire case file. No, I am not kidding.

Sorry bbdeputy, not trying to bash the SBSO, but people who lost their homes, or endured the evacuation, still want some closure. We all know that arson cases are among the hardest to solve/prove, but we would also like to believe the whack-job who started the Old isn't still running around out there.

Yes, all that, and I also want the scumbags to have to sweat and worry and look over their shoulders every moment of the rest of their miserable lives. The case needs to be kept open and in the public attention. SOMEbody knows who did this!
