I saw on the GVL forum that they did a water analysis on the lake water? does anyone know if that's every "officially" or not officially done on our lake? it would be interesting to see.

Hello Ian,
To my knowledge no water quality testing is done on the lake as it is private and it is only as a seasonal runoff reservoir. I do know that the Fish and Game Dept. does monitor the temperature of the water from planting to planting to insure that the temperature is still low enough to sustain fish life after they plant. Usually the temperature of the lake rises too high after about the 15th or 20th of May each year so the fish plants after that date are usually curtailed for the season.

Maybe this is an appropriate moment to get the "lake dredging" issue boiling up again. Water quality is much related to water temperature and water depth, and deeper water means colder water and cleaner water. While the lake appears to be topped off for a while, keep in mind that the lake is VERY shallow and will dry up again in a during a dry moderate dry spell. We should have done everything we can by then to get the lake dredged at that time to make it deeper, cleaner, colder, and prettier.

I also wonder if it would be possible to have wood-chip spread across the dirt parking area in order to reduce dust and mud. With so much wood chipping around here, it seems like it should be free stuff because otherwise it has to be dumped. Does anyone know of this could be done?

I say dredge, have it lined and stocked all year round! A ready water supply for bucket refilling during fire season. A water supply for structure fires if needed (look at the Universal fire they pumped water from the ponds there when the pressure was low). I know we have beaten this issue to death but nothing ever seems to get done... we only forget about it for a while. Arrowbear Water Mike please can the water company do something about this?

ABMike has stated that he has contacted the owner who seems disinterested. So we need to capture his interest. How can we get someone, a landowner and developer, to become interested in putting money into his land? We need to point out why it is to his benefit, or why it could be to his benefit. We need to come up with the reasons why letting the water stagnate and dry up is a poor decision for him. They guy probably lives at least as far away as Los Angeles, and probably doesn't even know the local issues up here....That's just a guess. But if we can find out who he is, what his interests are, perhaps we can get our message through, and even if it takes a little volunteerism, I believe we could get a coordinated effort pulled together to get it done. But it's going to require much more than two or three people. Environmentalists our there...here is a worthwhile effort for you to throw your weight behind. The deeper lake would mean a longer lasting water supply of cleaner, colder, higher quality water.
