I have an LG8300 which is a simple but great phone. Today I have three bars. I also have been able to connect to the internet with my Verizon wireless modem. Sometime I actually pick up the RevA system but not for long. I am glad I decided not to drop Charter Internet for Wireless Verizon Internet!

It seems that it is way more widespread deadzones then I thought. Apparently our "network" has moved outa town!!

I'm on Weeping Willow Dr. and have five bars.

My provider is Helio, which buys it's airtime from Sprint and Verizon. I know I'm on Verizon in town because I lose my 3G Sprint internet connection once I pass through Running Springs.

We were up last weekend and had great coverage inside cabin which is not usual. Most of the time I only have one to two bars but had 3 bars this time around Spruce and Canyon. Does anyone know if the wireless internet card for lap tops work on the same signal or does anyone have a verizon wireless package that can comment on if it is worth-while rather than getting a cable internet system, a couple of posts I have read have stated it costs alot. Thanks

GVLMC - I have a verizon WIreless card and I can pick up the network from my home on WildRose and GVL rd. The signal occasionally picks up the RevA system which is pretty fast but mostly it just picks up National Access which is slow. I opted not to disconnect my Charter Internet because of speed and also the 5 GB cap on Bandwidth which Sprint has also. For the general Internet user 5 GB is not big deal but for a power user like me who also does web design it is a big deal. I got it so that I can get away in my RV and still be connected.

If you just want to connect to pick up your email you can always drag your Laptop downtown GVL and connect to Mountain Hotspot. Its free!

Regarding the Hotspot.... As far as we know there are no issues Hotspot.

What we have found is that people do not know how to log onto it! You have to search for the network and connect. Once connected you launch your browser. It will come up with the login page. About the middle of that page is the login or create a new account links. Once you create an account or login you are directed to a regular webpage. From there you can surf away.

Hotspot has been very stable for about a month now. This is a new technology and we have had a learning curve but it is working just fine now.

If there are any issues please let us know especially if it is do to "not knowing what to do" so we can make it easier for everyone.

Post here... we monitor this site for hotspot and webcam issues.

Thanks Danilyn
Not a full-timer so the hot spot will do for now, how much is the Charter high speed a month just in case and how about the winters does that get affected? Do you need a phone line or is it cable?
Thanks again

Charter is about $60 per month, but you can get deals for I think $20 per month for the first few months. You don't need a phone line to use cable Internet. As Danny said, Mountain Hotpsot should be stable and working fine. We had some problems with the firmware on the access point, but we upgraded it and it has been stable. If you are can't login, let us know. The SSID is mountainhotspot and there is no encryption. You will get redirected to a portal where you can login with an existing account or can create a new account. There is no cost to the service.

I went to a Verizon store on Monday. I asked if there was service in GVL, and they told me the entire town has service including the surrounding hills. They wanted to sell me service.

I walked with my laptop to see where I could get service to that. I had to walk all the way past Wild Cherry and Yucon to get service. I have the newest and supposedly best phone Verizon offers as far as the antenna goes and a brand new wireless card for the computer.....

I think we should all call in now. We have given them plenty of time to fix the problem, but they have not. I really infuriates me that the problem was reported, not fixed, but that they are still attempting to sell phones to people.

If enough of us call, maybe they will get the message. This includes people who get service in their homes. Please drive around Holcomb and you will see that service doesn't exist here. We ALL need to come together on this as a community.

Can somebody list the number to call, maybe in a new thread so we all call?

Thanks for everything everyone has done to get this going, I just think it is time to step it up to flooding them with complaints so they listen. If that doesn't work, maybe letters to the editor, or a full-blown article will do the trick.

If that doesn't work maybe a call to the Public Utilities Commissioner(if they handle cells) or to another service provider that would like our business, or to the BBB.

Sorry for the rant, but I am getting so sick of missing calls.

One of my verizon phones went to no signal at all, while others indicated excellent reception. A call to tech support had me utilize the “*228" feature. After connection you are prompted to press “1" and the system programs the phone over the air. Final result was excellent signal reception. I was advised to do this about every 30 days to ensure the latest. It was recommended that others might try this. If I decide to leave the driveway today, perhaps I will do a field survey

Does that work for other providers also?

The *228 works for Verizon. I do not know if any other wireless services provide that. We still have an issue up here and the more folks who call into VW Customer Service and complain about bad reception the more chance we will have of getting our service back completely.

Something happened, something changed over 4th of July weekend. They were out here working and when they left they left us with less service. They more people who call the more they will realize there is a problem and hopefully remedy it.

Their customer service number is 800) 922-0204 Monday-Sunday 6am-11pm. I already have a ticket open. Call them and open a ticket, especially if you can not get service at your home and used to be able to.

What is the status with Verizon these days? Does the silence on this thread mean that everyone has been appeased?

Does anyone else use a different carrier that provides them adequate service in town?

I need to get a cell phone in the next few days and wanted some feedback before making a purchase.

No better at all....Yukon/holcomb still a dead zone. Whatever was changed around the 4th of July decreased the service availability and has not been corrected.
Sent: Wednesday, September 3, 2008 09:15 PM
On the 4th of July I was at my buddy's cabin on wild cherry between yukon and oak knoll and had almost no signal at all from verizon. This last weekend it was back to pre 4th of July strength with around 3-4 bars out of 4 bars possible. My guess is that holcomb creek and yukon will remain a dead zone unless verizon puts up a higher tower or in a different location. Being on top of the water co. doesnt provide much coverage and with the frequencies that cell phones operating on being line of site the coverage will remain not too good. The dense forest makes it hard for the radio waves to penetrate too far.
