Nobody really cares about golf carts because they are basically SILENT and go about 10 miles per hour. A street legal motorcycle (with a license plate) has a muffler that meets noise standards. Dirt bikes and ATVs don't. Often dirt bike mufflers are even removed or modified making them even louder. If you have one roaring up and down your street over and over you'd be able to tell the difference right away. It's usually kids whose parents are teaching them it's OK to break the law because it's just GVL and nobody cares, right? The legal area for off road vehicles is down Crab Flats Rd. - but that's too far to go for some people. It's not really an issue of legality, it's an issue of being considerate to your neighbors.

Ok I understand that dirtbikes and ATV's are disruptive but for someone to call the highway patrol is just ridiculous!!! With gas prices high, some still can't afford luxury cars like you have! Therefore, a dirtbike doesn't take a lot of gas and to just ride it to say the store or a friends house it works out quite nicely. The kids and teens of Green Valley have nothing to do so then when they think of something to do you crush it by calling the CHP? WOW!!! If you're so worried about "the noise" and complaining about them being disruptive, then why don't you come up with something for them to do?? I've tried but no one ever helps out! So if you're going to complain you should make a back-up plan and think of something for them to do!!! Oh and by the way this isn't a retirement center so don't make it sound like one.

I don't want to go back & forth on this but I'll add three comments to your post; 1. Luxury car??? 2. A street legal bike works just fine to go down to the store. 3. Why can't the kids "looking for something to do" go down to Crab Flats?

I understand that we live in an area that is near an OHV area and that riding dirtbikes and quads is a popular recreational activity in our area. I have no problem with people riding them to and from these areas as long as it's at a minimal speed and at reasonable hours.
However, there are some individuals who need to be dealt with. In my part of town there are two that I've seen repeatedly. One is a male who appears to be in his late teens that rides a white dirt bike. On more than one occasion there has been a teenage girl on the back of the bike. Neither wear helmets or any sort of protective clothing (she was wearing shorts, a tank-top, and sandals the most recent time). He speeds, drives recklessly, and thinks it's hilarious to buzz pedestrians by accelerating and swerving in their direction. When I attempted to follow him in an effort to find out where he lived he cut through several properties on Weeping Willow Dr. and Squirrel Dr. to get from one street to the other.
The other is also a male that appears to be in his teens. He rides a mini-bike and likes to cut through people's yards and do donuts in their driveways. The best part is that often times he is followed by an adult in a white truck that seems to be amused by all of this and is obviously okay with it.
Cheercapt, if anyone encounters these two I encourage them to call the CHP. And if gas prices are an excuse then perhaps they shouldn't ride around all day wasting gas. I also think it's ridiculous to try and use a lack of entertainment to justify criminal behavior. I too was raised in a small town and thought there was often "nothing to do". But it never occurred to me to amuse myself by terrorizing the neighbors. Perhaps the kids or even the parents (*gasp*) should take some responsibility for providing something "to do". While I'm all for community involvement and activities, it's ludicrous to blame someone who reports a crime committed by unsupervised children for not providing something for them to do instead.

I am finding this thread is totally getting off the subject. But i need to add my two cents on this off road vehicle issue. I live in this town and i ride. if the people that do ride were to be respectful to others and slow down and be as quiet as you can then this wouldnt even be an issue in my opinion. i could be wrong but i think the people of this town wouldnt have a problem. their are a few people that are causing a problem for the rest of us. and before you ask, i have lived in this town probly longer than 99% of the people on this site. but that is besides the point. when i was a kid my parents taught us to ride and to be respectful. when we go riding we drive through the valley to the closest dirt road and then go from their. and sometimes i like to drive around town, but i do so at a reasonable speed and noise level. i'm not saying i'm right and others are wrong but if your going to ride through the valley, do it respectfully.

Yes it's always a few people that ruin it for the rest of us.

FYI Locals. We have members of the fire dept., a CHP officer and a dog catcher as full time residents. This town has changed alot in the last few years.(Full time resident 14 years) I think for the better. Most of the criminal element that used to think GVL was a place to hide out and victimize the home owners have left. GVL has always been a place where kids ride their dirtbikes around town. Most of the time they are not the problem. The people that ride fast through town are mostly adult locals or weekend visitors. They can be annoying but thankfully they are not breaking into and burning down our cabins like the last bunch was.

So..... green valley lake is a great place to live and all its just its rough when your in the age groups of 14-17 trust me i know from experience lol. When your that age you have to find the right group of friends to hang out with... and theres not that many kids up here to chill with. Anyways... Pat i know exactly what your talkin about on the guy who hauls butt around town on his bike("hes a good friend of mine") hes just being a kid you know? i'll talk to him to watch it and i'll tell him to try and go a little slower k. He'll probably listen to me k. That way he doesn't get in trouble and you guys get your peace and quiet ok

CJ_DC10_909 I think your approach is reasonable.

See!!!! Everyone sees it!! The teens have nothing to do, and yes I understand some do ruin it for others but I have had the highway patrol called on me when i brought my atv out just to be washed! Keep in mind the bike was never started.. Now that's a little much. I have lived up here for sixteen years and my family has been up here for way longer. It seems like the newer people up here are the ones complaining. Like someone else said, at least they aren't breaking into anything would you rather that? As for the people who understand you are appreciated!

Reasonableness, something that I can support and endorse.

In the early 70's I had a “dirt bike” with a modified and power enhancing exhaust system. I could travel through the Valley en route to the forest (legal Gill spark arrester). I could pass through the village without attracting any notice. Last Tuesday I observed an obviously illegal quad (20ish male, no helmet, no license plate) traveling e/b from the village at a safe speed. I had no problem with this vehicle. Golf carts are also inherently safe whether they have license plates or not. It is the operators responsibility of whatever is driven to be responsible for their actions. Again, the speed limit throughout the Valley is 25MPH, the vehicle traveling up hill has the right of way if the roadway is narrow, and basic courtesy should be exhibited by everyone.

Maybe some of these kids ought to consider getting one of the new electric dirt bikes. They are quiet but have plenty of horsepower and torque. I'm thinking about getting one myself. They are a bit pricier than gas powered, but you don't need to worry about smelly gas and dangerous exhaust (fire danger) fumes. They look like a lot of fun and you don't need to go down to get gas in Arrowbear for them, just plug them in at home.

That last idea does sound like a good one but I don't think they can afford them. Some of the teens have said they'll talk to their friends so lets see where that gets us. I totally agree with you about the guy on the white crotchrocket, he is quite obnoxious.
