Our 70th water carnival looks like it was a great sucess, have not seen so many people in GVL in a long time. Thank you volunteers, What I did notice was that all the volenteers were not locals, why don't the locals get involved and support their community??? I never see the locals at the General store or any of the resturants.
I did attend the water company meeting and all I heard was complaints by the locals on what was happening with the water company and the new lake manager, the lake has never looked better. It seems all they do is complain and never get involved.

I lived up here since i was two years old and this is the worst ive ever seen it!

I just wish I could see the lake regardless of the shape it's in. Since I moved to Colorado I don't get out there much. I'll be up in my beloved GVL on Sept 19th.
I'm just happy that all of GVL didn't burn up. The lake could be sitting in a scorched earth dust-bowl. As it is it's still a jewel in the mountains. Maybe this spring it should be drained and kill all the lake weed. Do repairs as necessary to the Dam. It's always so nice after it's drained and refilled.

OK....I'll have to remember to wear my "I'm a Local" tee shirt when I go to the lake, restaurants and the market. How else will anyone know I'm a local? I never realized someone was doing a survey. I think you have a huge margin for error in it however. How can you be sure who is a local & who is not? I am not always recognized as a local. After more than 12 years, one local realtor still trys to sell me something every time I try to have a burger at the Malt Shoppe. You would think he would know locals by now. Maybe you should pass on your method of identifying us to him. Just a thought............

gvl_guy,

Along with your "I'm a local" tee shirt, have a valid ID and all your GVL utility bills for the past 12 years. An evalution of your utility meter readings will determine, if in fact you are a local. You must also have three affidavids signed by verified offical locals, stating that they have witnessed you at GVL activities or patronizing local businesses more than once a year.

The GVL city council will determine if you are wearing the "official" I am local tee shirt before your local status is recognized.

All decisions are final and you do not have a right to appeal.

I forgot an important clause that is written in the fine print. If you were born here or your grandpa built your cabin, you are not required to apply for a "I'm a local" license.

Thank you for supporting my cause, your the perfect example that I was talking about, All you do is complain and you do not get involved in your community. Thank you Thank you Thank you.

FUNNY..........I don't see the complaint. Well...unless you count your repeated complaint about everyone else!!!! Don't you feel just a little bit foolish about your generalizations? Are you running for Official Local Detector? Why do you divide the community into categories anyway? Why does it matter who enjoys the lake and town businesses as long as people do? Your comments are not constructive at all. Weekenders should feel like they are welcome and ARE locals too. You are very quick to judge others actions. Our community belongs to everyone equally, weather they use the lake, stores and restaurants or not. Since when do we need to meet your standards? I suggest you re-think your comments and how they effect others. I don't think you will find very many buyers for your "Local-Dar" mountain resident detector. Maybe you should try it in Lake Arrowhead? They like to discriminate.....

I agree gvl_guy. I enjoy living up here and enjoy going to the lake. I don't complain about the condition of the lake as it seems silly to do so, i just enjoy living here. Anyway, its always amazing to me how many people complain on here. I think that the original post was just to say that the water carnival was enjoyed. if he/she thinks the lake looks great, then good for him/her. If others disagree, thats ok too. As long as we all take care of our town and try to be nicer to our neighbors, GVL will always be a great place to live.

calw - i did want to add, that it may not have been the right statement to accuse locals of not supporting our town. anyway, just a thought.

Do I get local status if my grandpa built my cabin, but it burned down in the fire. I have purchased another one in GVL 130 ft away from the original?
You need to put that in the fine print regarding local status.
"If your grandpa built your cabin and it burned down, but you bought another one you're still a local".

mattclover,

All joking aside...

If your cabin was destroyed in the fire... grandpa built it or not... I am very sorry for your loss.

But I did read your post on another thread where you described that your tragedy ended up being a blessing.... where you were able to now own 2 cabins, one in colorado and one in GVL, when otherwise you would not. Things worked out for you in your favor

So I think you are finding some humor in my post about "GVL local" status and verification. Therefore you have a lifetime GVL local membership that is recognized in all 50 states. You will recieve your "gold local membership" card within' 10 working days :::smile:::

Present this card at any social activity and you will get top billing to share all your special stories about GVL. Regular members are limited to 10 mins to tell their GVL stories... Gold members receive unlimited story telling minutes.

The special language you requested has been written into the fine print :::wink:::

Matt, your tee shirt will read in the front "I'm a Gold Member Local" and in the back it will read "wild fires couldn't keep me away".

LazyHiker.

I am ROFLOL!! Wait. Let me catch my breath. Your humor is GREAT! I've lived her for twelve years and still get asked, "Do you live here?" Yes. At one point I was VERY active in the community. Life happens, things change. Some day I would like to be as involved as before but for now, family is first. But, I still patron the local businesses as frequently as I can. Personally, I can't tell a local from a visitor either.
