I was looking at a plat of GVL and I see that Green Valley Lake Rd is actually called 101 Mile drive. Does any one know why on the property maps it's called 101 mile drive and the street is something else? Also what is 101 miles from Green Valley Lake?

Los Angeles is 101 miles from GVL. I am really not sure why the name was changed or when. I am pretty sure some one would be able to give you more historical information. Too bad there is not more on the gvl website. I like the historical photos that are on there. Hopefully some one with more info will post here

That is interesting and now you've got me curious. I heard something about GVL and LA but can't remember the story. It has something to do with how GVL came to be

Going back to that one link of the lost homes made me shudder again. I remember when I first saw that and saw my home listed as destroyed. I prefer not to relive that moment.
Is there anywhere that there is a street sign that says 101 mile drive?

My Grandfather told me that when he first moved to GVL the road was still called 101 mile drive, he used to point out a marker on the road very close to where fox lumber used to be! I had forgotten about it until I read this thread! Thank you for bringing back some good memories. I would be willing to bet that the Lilleberg Museum would have info about it.

I Googled it and there is apparently a marker for 101 Mile Drive on Hwy 18 near Crestline:
