What a great idea Martha!!
We have a fun day planned for the 4th, starting of course with our HUGE parade! There will be food and vendors and of course MUSIC. Got a great chili recipe, enter it into the chili cookoff. Love to bake? We need goodies for the bake sale. Hate to bake? Come by and purchase something yummy at the bake sale. There will also be kids things going on.
The festivities start at 10:00 and the parade starts at 11:00. Let the kids dress the dog and walk in the parade.
EVERYONE IS WELCOME!

Is there a fireworks show in the works? I know there are areas around GVL where you could watch the show in Lake Arrowhead.

Naturally we in GVL are not doing fireworks but there are some wonderful places to watch them off Holcomb creek. Also Big Bear is having a show

Most people watch a fireworks show by looking up into the sky. We watch it looking down from heaven. It's a fun experience.
There are many great places to go in GVL with GREAT views of Lake Arrowhead. Our small town parade beats ALL. I'll see you guys there

I remember one year my friend and I kiked to the top of Mt. Gorgonio on the 4th. We camped up there and looked down on all the fireworks shows down the hill. We got to see several shows all at the same time. They looked like giant colorful flowers on the ground. It is one of my most memorable 4ths.

Just wondered what happened to chipper day? I spent yesterday working in the yard, limbing the willows and stacking the limbs by the roadside like the flyer in the Post Office said, and no one ever showed up. Was it cancelled? They could have at least taken the flyer down.
On another note, just want to mention to those who would normally be showing up at our annual 4th of July barbeque that we won't be having it this year due to the economy, stress and our "barbeque cook" went on vacation.
Maybe next year. We're just going to stick to a small family barbeque this year. So go ahead and go see the fireworks, check out the party in town.

Hello nupfold, I recall that chipper day was delayed last year. The same thing happened and they didn't come on the day we were told they'd be here. But they did eventually come to pick up the logs and slash. You can call the Running Springs Fire Department to get the actual day they will be here (that's what I did last year).

San Bernardino County Fire Fuels Reduction Crew will be by this week, probably tomorrow, Wednesday, to pick up our slash. They had hoped to be by yesterday and things came up. Don’t give up. They will be there. We are fortunate to have arrangements with them to visit each street. Walt

Looks like it gonna be a good time this weekend. Everyone's working and getting ready. I've also noticed a some classic cars that are getting ready for the parade

Hi folks,
Looks like it is sizing up to be a great 4th of July. This last June has been one of the coldest I can remember but it sure is nice now and am looking forward to this weekend. One thing we might be cautious of though......... Many do not understand our concern for fire. Over the years this weekend has always been of concern with fireworks calibrating and back country campfires. KEEP 911 ON SPEED DIAL. I remember many years ago Fireworks being launched over GVL from high up on Angeles Dr. in a 20 MPH wind by fireworks mortar rounds. Sorry but lets keep GVL safe this weekend and enjoy the holiday. (hugs)
Happy 4th to all,

I'll be launching mortars on the Indian reservation across the river from my place in Fort Mohave, Az. It's good business for them (not as good as the casino). They sell the fireworks and provide an area next to the river to shoot them off. They also have grandstands for folks to sit on. It's at the Avi casino. It's a fun legal way to shoot off "The Good Ones".

The Arizona rangers that patrol the river will have something to say about that. When camped along the river some fireworks
happened and resulted in official vehicles arriving in search of those illegally launching them. We were unable to figure it out for them.
It taint funny (or legal) McGee

Can reservations be immune from fire regulations?
