OK, as new Apple Valley residents, transplanted from Big Bear, we're finding all kinds of new things to ponder. But so far, the train is the greatest (well, outside of the sunsets).

We don't hear the rumbling on the tracks from where we live, but we can hear the "whistle" when the windows are open, and we can actually see the trains, Lionel-sized, from our patio. My husband is mesmerized. If he's on the phone, he has to tell whomever he's talking to that he must now run outside to watch the train, BYE! This is so cool.

The trains are cool, aren't they. And as far as sunsets go--you just ain't seen nothing yet. Welcome to Apple Valley, Lynne--it does have its own beauty--just like the mtns.

Hi Betty

Yeah Lynne the trains are cool. My son in law drives and maintains the trains at Knotts Berry Farm. We recently took him and our daughter to the Grand Canyon and treated him to a ride on the Grand Canyon Railroad. Busman's holiday lol. He loved it. Spent a lot of time in the train yards.

We love to stay at the Motel 6 there in Williams, as it's right across the street and a small field from the tracks. Freighters come through and the sounds are fantastic. I grew up hearing trains and have always loved them.

We spend a week in Apple Valley every year. This year was WAY TOO HOT but still enjoyed the family get together.

Betty, I was going to try again this year but Rowan said your Hubby wasn't feeling well or something like that. Can't really remember. Didn't want to bother you. We'll try for next year. Always during the 4th of July week. However Carol is living there now so maybe sooner.

Kibb--when the hubby is sick--thats the best time to bother me. You know what whiners guys are when they don't feel well. I do think thats when my son was here to though--from Germany and it was such a short visit that I would'nt have wanted to leave his side anyway. Hopefully we'll be seeing him and the family this Christmas. I'll keep in mind though--4th of July week--you know what they say though---first the mind goes and aaaah, well, ya know.
