There is a quote about putting a bow on a pig or something like that. Someone needs to buy it, then sue him for his wreckless ads. But craigslist does not need to be as honest as a realtor would!

You can always lease the sign and use it to warn people not to stop in the town...

He missed the memo it seems. Real Estate places are not hopping. Business is down in CA. Then again maybe the sole purpose of the business is to sell the town.

Or a Tax write off, dead cattle are worth more than alive in the IRS world!

I ate lunch there yesterday, and I'm still around to post at 13:35 here today. Good enough health rating for me.

Well, at least someone has something positive to say about the restaurant!

I love our restaurant... just wish they were open later sometimes. And maybe lower their prices, but I'm cheap and poor- a deadly combination.

I've been here over 20 years and have seen the restaurant thru good and bad times. With more community support they might keep the hours extended. But, why stay open later if there's no business? The Berens are really good people and it's a shame that a few disgruntled folks (based on rumors, gossip and idle minds) have nothing to do but sling mud and hurt the local businesses.
The fabric store closed due to lack of business NOT increased rent! They are still viable, but via the internet (no retail store front).
This town is a little bit of Heaven (in spite of a few demons) and we deserve better than some of the crap that I've read on these pages.
My family will continue to support The Oaks and we wish others would change their small minds, open their eyes, get off their butts, and support our community (not necessarily the "land owners" .

Fabric store closed for lack of business in a store front and increaed rent? What foot traffic did they feel would be there with NO parking and type of business?. I hope they do far better on E business. We do need to support the PO and rest....
and the town as a whole.

Get over it already! It's done, it's never going to be the same, so move on. Use the energy you spend demeaning people for something constructive. This is America, Torsten can SAY anything he wants, that doesn't mean it's true or that it's going to happen. The water company should have seen this coming and got ready for the worst as soon as the Robinson property was rumored to be going up for sale. If they had been ready none of this would be happening. I figure the net town jobs lost to be three ((-4)(+1)). Patty and Jan will be fine and move on with their lives. And for the others, I don't consider losing a minimum wage job to be a tragedy, they will also be better off. A business that connected bikers and sewing failed, wow that's a shocker. A twenty-five percent share don't mean s@*t when you're the minority, another case of getting into trouble for not looking ahead. I like the restaurant and the people there but it's too expensive. I eat there about once a month, I'd eat there a couple of times a week if lunch cost seven dollars instead of twelve. The store only has a few items with a brand name I've ever heard of but it's still better than driving down the hill in a pinch. We've still got a great town with wonderful people and Im happy we have what we have. Thank you for letting me rant.

I don't consider your opinion to be a "rant". I agree that all this negative attitude doesn't help anything.
I HAVE been on the GMMWC Board (two years of hell!). I've experienced narrow minded, self-serving individuals who find it so easy to criticize, yet have nothing positive to suggest to correct their perceived "injustice". (Making it difficult to focus on foresight.)
As for the prices at The Oaks...what HASN'T gone up recently? Go to Coco's and have lunch to see what a meal costs. Sometimes convenience costs us, but it is still our choice. I choose to support small businesses including those here in town . (I haven't found anything that I needed at the store, so I quit going in.)
Wake up and smell the flowers, smile every chance you get, and do something nice to ANYONE today...you'll live longer!
Regards

I ate at the restaurant earlier this month. Breakfast was about $12, I thought it was high but I have not been to Coco's or other places yet. I was happy to pay it and the waitress was kind and hospitable. I would eat there again given the time to pass through home again soon. If I pay a little extra to help them get by, so be it. I may not be able to eat there all the time but I can do my part.

As for the fabrics shop, I have no idea how such a shop can survive at that location. They need to be in Yucaipa or Mentone. Marketing, product placement, you know.

Walking through the store I saw nothing I wanted to buy. I did like the pink Vespa for sale out front however.
Sent: Wednesday, April 30, 2008 10:53 PM
I'm sure there are all kinds of excuses for the rediculous prices, bottom line is- I can't afford it, so I complain.

Yes, Torsten may say [almost] anything he wants, but he needs to realize that this isn't South Africa- we have laws here. He is not exempt from the rules because of financial superiority (real or imagined), immigration status, ego, etc. He and his cronies have proven time and time again that they feel like they "own the town" and therefore they can do whatever they want.

End rant.
