Site Updates & Information
Your site is not up-to-date. Please update it!
Thanks for your concern. The site is updated as soon as possible when information from local agencies is received, scanner reports are heard, or news is gathered. Unfortunately, this is a single-person volunteer operation, and it is sometimes difficult to keep all of the information up-to-date when local agencies are not forthcoming with updates and the everyday needs of home, full-time work, and college limit the time to update the site. All of the time-sensitive information on the site has a date and time of the last update. More frequent updates are often found in our many Discussion Groups.
Do you have the rainfall or snowfall totals for a particular location?
All of our rainfall information comes from the County monitoring system. This is publicly available information from http://www.co.san-bernardino.ca.us/trnsprtn/pwg/preciptotals.htm. You may also get information from private rain gauges at http://www.wunderground.com or storm reports from the National Weather Service at http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/sgx/display_product_versions.php?wfo=sgx&sid=sgx&pil=lsr&pvnum=20.
How do you read the rainfall map?
The rainfall map shows the southwestern portion of San Bernardino County. The black line is the county border. The light gray lines are the freeways, with the long north-south line being Interstate 15 and the east-west line at the very bottom being Interstate 10.
Could you have a page with specific information updated frequently? This would be really helpful!.
Some information is difficult to get. RIMOFTHEWORLD.net relies of publicly available information from the National Weather Service, Caltrans, San Bernardino County, and the CHP. It is often difficult to get other information with our limited resources. However, we do have very active Discussion Groups, and often other visitors can answers your specific questions.
How do I get to where I'm going? Can you give me directions?
You might want to ask this question in our Discussion Groups. Providing personalized directions is time-consuming and takes away from our limited resources in keeping the site up-to-date.
Can you please fix my road?
RIMOFTHEWORLD.net is not affiliated with San Bernardino County of Caltrans. You will need to contact the appropriate agency directly for your particular needs.
There is an abandoned car on my road. Please send someone to take care of it.
RIMOFTHEWORLD.net is not affiliated with the Sheriff's Department of the California Highway Patrol. You will need to contact the Sheriff's Department or CHP directly.

Why does my browser seem to be always downloading from RIMOFTHEWORLD.net?
The traffic and weather information in the upper-left of the page is updated every 1-2 minutes. Your browser automatically fetches these updates. You can read the pages normally, while this is happening and you do not need to wait for the page to finish.
The pages are hard to read. The images show up on top of the text. Please fix this.
RIMOFTHEWORLD.net works best with the newest Web Browsers. We recommend Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0. Others have reported success with newer version of Opera and Apple Safari.
Who runs RIMOFTHEWORLD.net?
RIMOFTHEWORLD.net is owned, operated, and funded by Scott Straley. The site is offered as a public service to the community. After moving to the mountains in 2001, Scott Straley saw the need for local information. As a programmer, he stated RIMOFTHEWORLD.net as a side project. After the Old Fire, it grew tremendously. Straley dedicates 15 to 20 hours a week (often more during crises) to maintain the site. He relies of the tireless efforts of visitors posting messages in the Discussion Groups, updating neighbors in the Alerts page, providing timely photos in the Photo Galleries, and contributing Columns to the site. Most of the operating costs are defrayed by Sponsorship advertising. By using digital cameras, a laptop, and a wireless modem, Straley is able to update the site from virtually anywhere
Can we link to your site?
RIMOFTHEWORLD.net spread by word-of-mouth, and we appreciate all of the links to our site. You may link to the homepage at http://rimoftheworld.net or to a specific discussion group or feature. You may use a text link or our graphics button (http://www.rimoftheworld.net/images/rotwbutton.gif.)
Can we donate money to the site?
We are grateful for the offer, but encourage those wishing to donate money to contribute to the local fire departments or disaster relief agencies or local funds. We do accept commercial Sponsorships for those seeking to advertise on RIMOFTHEWORLD.net.
