From: Jim_RileySent: Tuesday, September 1, 2009 02:11 PM Thanks for the prayers, everyone. I agree that in most cases it is best to heed the evacuation orders, but there are some ranch properties that are ready and prepared to help in the fire effort and whose owners can evacuate without getting in the way of fire crews. I just showed a fire truck where to fill his tank with our fire suppression system and if Scott Riley had not stayed behind on this property that water system would not have remained full for the effort.

Incident Overview

The Oak Glen Fire is under the
jurisdiction of CalFire. It started on
Sunday August 30, 2009 at 1:45 pm in
the hills south of Potato Canyon Road
and Oak Glen Road about 4 to 5 miles
north of Beaumont and Banning.

Mandatory Evacuations are in effect for
the south and southeast portions of Oak
Glen and voluntary evacuations for the
remainder of Oak Glen. An Evacuation
Center has been set up at Yucaipa
Community Center near Yucaipa Regional
Park at 34900 Oak Glen Rd. 2 blocks
west of Bryant Street. Oak Glen Road is
closed from Chagall Street on the west
end to Wildwood Canyon Road on the east
end. Large Animals may be taken to
Yuciapa Equestrian Center at 13273
California St. Those needing assistance
with animals should call San Bernardino
Animal Control at 800-472-5609.

Basic Information
Incident Type	Wildfire
Cause	Under Investigation
Date of Origin	Sunday August 30th, 2009 approx 01:45 PM
Location	4-5 miles north of Beaumont
Incident Commander	Jeff Veik

Current Situation
Total Personnel	1,024
Size	1,000 acres
Percent Contained	25%

Fuels Involved

Heavy chaparral, oak woodland and mixed pines.

Fire Behavior

Today, firefighters face high
temperatures and low humidity, rugged
terrain, and very dry and flammable
vegetation that in many instances has
not burned since 1924. Fire is fuels
and topography driven.

Significant Events

Aggressive fire fighting and air attack
made good progress on the fire. Poor
humidity recovery and heavy, old fuels
have promoted active burning last night
and significant increase in acreage.
Firefighters are on the line today
constructing containment line around
the fire with the help of the hand
crews and the bulldozers. Coordination
with Sheriff on evacuation continues as needed.

Outlook
Planned Actions

Structure protection, construction of
control lines on all divisions.

Growth Potential

High

Terrain Difficulty

Extreme.

Remarks

Road Closures-- Oak Glen Road from
Chagall Street to Wildwood Canyon Road.
Large animals can be taken to the
Yucaipa Equestrian Center 13273
California Road. For animal emergencies
related to the fire, call San
Bernardino County Animal Control
1-800-472-5609.

Resources assigned: 1024 personnel, 87
engines, 6 water tenders, 41 hand
crews, 8 dozers, 10 helicopters, 6

From: Cyndi Sent: Monday, August 31, 2009 09:47 AM I live in Forest Falls and work in Yucaipa. Yesterday the smoke plume was pushed to the north so it was right over us in FF. Today, the wind direction is pushing everything to the east and a little south - which is why Riley's farm is threatened. Driving down Oak Glen Road past the regional park this morning, I passed a convoy of strike teams heading up - must have been 20 - the ones I could read were from Alpine, Growlersburg, Williams, Lakeside, Pine Grove - all northern California. From: Jim_Riley Sent: Sunday, August 30, 2009 10:34 PM Just drove down Oak Glen road a bit, towards the water company house and the Ellworth residence. We can see spot fires on the ridge there. There seems to be one small ridge between us and the fire, but I didn't see many engines in this area. Debating departure...

We checked all the way to Oak Glen Road on Wildwood; fire has not jumped the road; burning up on Pisgah Peak; CHP has closure at Oak Glen Road at Wildwood; they have a pretty good view.

From: Kats Sent: Sunday, August 30, 2009 10:35 PM The fire was burning east south east. But now it seems to be shifting back to a more north direction, or so the sheriff says. And I have to agree, I can feel the breeze. It would have to go a bit to hit Bogart but not impossible. This area hasn't burned in recorded history, over 150 years.

From: Kats Sent: Sunday, August 30, 2009 10:15 PM Sheriff just knocked on our door. Wind has shifted and fire is turning this way. Mandatory evacuation. DH has decided to stay. We can watch if it gets closer and do have a way out if it does. We are packed and ready. And we were very good at fire proofing our build a couple years ago. One fireman told me today that our home should be the poster child for how to be fire safe. Looks like it might be a long night.

From: KathyM Sent: Sunday, August 30, 2009 09:39 PM Also, we have been watching the water drops the rest of the daylight hours. Now that it is dark we can see flames on top of the ridge; they get knocked down and then more flare ups. What a night our good guys are going to have to endure. Yikes! A really big flare up right now. damn. This one is really big.

From: KathyM Sent: Sunday, August 30, 2009 09:34 PM Hi Carol! That radio plug for ROTW was from me. I am down the hill right now in our Beaumont home and watched the plumes of smoke grow directly to the north of us right after 2 pm this afternoon. Huge big plumes of black smoke and the fire seemed to be moving really quickly. Someone from Yucaipa called KNX saying seeing flames but no other info. I called the station and they put me on the air. I told them what I was watching and also said that there was no info yet on Inciweb or Calfire but that best source of info other than my visual was from RimoftheWorld.net!

Eyewitness lives in Oak Glen: Back in for an update. There are helicopters all over. I would say maybe 5 flying one right after another. The DC10 has come over twice. Once on the ridge and once right over my house (wish I had caught that!) Looks like OG proper is going to be ok. The wind that normally comes straight up the Glen was slightly blowing away from us. That has kept the fire on the ridge and in the state park area. Even Potatoe Canyon where the firemen were sure at least those home up next to the mountain would burn but I think all have made it so far.
